What's Toyota's counter move with GM?

I want the Colorado to do well so Toyota gets pressured to fix issues with the Tacoma. Selling an 8 year old truck as a new one is only acceptable if you fix the problems that cropped up 7 years ago. Toyota hasn't even tried to address the frame rust/rear spring/driveline vibration issues.

Well, they tried to address the rear springs. They'll give you 4 crappy springs instead of 3 ;)

Any specifics on the F150 tranny issues? I have a friend with an EcoBoost who's curious. I already let him know about the CAC condensation; so far it hasn't happened to him.

If ford wants a relatively easy jump into the midsize truck segment, they could take that overseas model, drop in that beast of a 3.7L V6 that's already set up for US emissions, and call it a day.

I'd love to drive a GM. I'd love to drive a Ford. I just can't stand the depreciation.

Yes the moisture is a known problem but doesn't affect all their trucks with the eco. I figured that was the one of the problems you were referring to.

Sync- that is just one of those things you have to do because sync works in conjunction with the doors and everything else. Toyota has problems with their entune system as well. I'm sure they will have problems at one point in time.

Now let me ask you this. Why is it that Toyota has produced this model (Tacoma) since 2005 and yet they still suffer the exact same problems in 05 as they are in 2014?

Taking Ford for example, F-150, you have to keep changing things in order to stay on top and they have succeed now for many years.

Tacoma sold 151,269 units in North America in 2012, in 2011 they sold 118,416. That's 32,853 difference in sales when the did the facelift. Look at the sales figures from the new RAV4. People want change, not the same old thing.

Total sales for F-150 in 2012, 645,316 units.
Total sales for Tundra in 2012, 101,621 units.

I like the new Colorado just because the offer a v8 in the old body style. So I'm assuming that they are gonna roll that over to the new style, and then they are gonna put a diesel option as well thats gonna be a big deal. For the compact truck market in the us since it will be the first to do so. Then maybe toyota will step up and put a v8 or diesel option like they offer in the huilx. Which would be awesome I would trade my truck in for a taco with a v8 or diesel in a hart beat.

Man I doubt they will offer another V8. I'm pretty sure that 300hp V6 will do an excellent job moving the truck around. I thought the V6 in the tacoma has enough power.

Now that diesels are starting to pour into the North American market. I cannot see Toyota not offering a diesel in our near future. Then again, they may come out with something else that suits the need.

It's a pretty cool time in the auto industry. I can't wait to see this truck in person!

Yeah, because the Bluetooth in my truck works so well... Doesn't rattle like a coffe can full of screws either. Everything is gonna have bugs.

A 300hp motor in the Tacoma would be awesome. Even better if it had a turbo or two on it. I don't care how much crap you give Ford about their EcoBoost, that kind of torque is addicting.

Toyota is more likely to work in a gas hybrid system on the next Tacoma. Toyota has previously publicly stated (press release last year) that they are phasing out their global diesels, that their long term plan is investment in hybrid technology, and that they have no plans to bring any diesels to North America.

I used to think so too. yeah its pretty quick given but have u ever tried to pull a trailer or boat up any kind of hills? The little 4.0 does ok but it just dont have the torque it needs to get that momentum up. I live in Colorado and going up the pass to go snow boarding or to take the dirt bike or 4 wheelers up into the mountains it struggles a bit more than I would like it to. So those options would be awesome to have. Given I will eventually s/c my truck and that should help aleveate some of the issue.

The problem with the Eco boost that people have been seeing is the longevity of the motor. It only last about 60k then starts having issues. Once they work all those kinks out I'm sure it will be a good engine. They are freaking fast tho!

Yeah, I did a lot of research on them prior to buying a Tacoma. I was picking between an F-150 or the truck I bought. I don't think the issues with the EcoBoost are as bad as they are made out to be. There are many more that are trouble free than the ones you hear about failing.

I don't care for the look of the front end, they should have made it like the full size. Toyota need not worry about the majority of us here, we are already customers, they do need to worry about all the others. My eight ball says there will be a redesign and it will be ugly at first, then grow on everyone. The 4.0 will be refined as a mid level option, the 2.7 will stay the same, and there will be a force induction model. It will still rock the trd sport wheels, lol.

On another note, when has it become ok to poo on other brands so bluntly, I don't recall ever seeing a video that shows the actual competing brand. That video would have looked a lot different if I was driving that tacoma  We need a shootout on the mid size trucks from top gear or someone.

GM's frames rust just as bad as Toyota's at least here in Maine GM does not replace frames they just say tough s!@#$. The GM rear spring hangers also break off from rust and then the spring goes right through the bed. Fords up here are the same way saw one the other day that frame end broke off just before the rear spring hanger. Try taking your rusty frame to GM and see what the'll do for you at least Toyota maned up and replaced them.

Better get the extended warranty.. Transmission aren't GM's strong suit. I'm sticking with my Tacoma!

Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
It is a nice looking truck, but after my ZR2, no Chevy again. I loved that truck, but without the extended warranty I had, I'd still be broke. They fill those vehicles with gadgets, to make you feel good. I mean I miss the auto headlights my Chevy had, but don't miss the dealer trips I had to do every few months. Instead of just building quality, and forgetting about the bells and whistles. Ford is the only domestic I'd buy at this point, and it won't be anytime soon.

Toyota is going to get a kick in the pants if the fuel economy on this chevy is better. Thats the biggest gripe I have with my truck. That and the lack of low end torque.
