    Make it a two day event. Do you have any camping gear? There are quite a few state parks in the area, most are near reservoirs.

    I live in SE WY; the really windy part. Grew up in eastern Iowa and the ensuing trips east to see family. At first it was all on 80 driving straight thru; but after retirement, 80 truck density, 80 in Iowa becoming a death trap, plus not having a time driven schedule, I always took the northern scenic route through NE, making a 2 day road trip both ways. Did spread my camping around various parks and other CG's; also the national forest on highway 2. A few that I liked: Pribel St Rec Area (S of O'Neil, no fees last I was there), Calamus SRA, Atkinson SRA, Long Lake SRA, Ft Robinson, Merritt Res SRA. Most of my trips were spring or fall and campgrounds were empty or mostly empty. Places of interest: Carhenge near Alliance, Ft Robinson, Ash Fall Fossil Bed SHP , Agate Fossil Bed NM and more.

    The truth is that I really like NE (except I80 and the really hot humid weather (reason I left IA).

    Enjoy what you have, do research to find the what interests you.

    Check out the Wildcat Hills too. Been posting a lot of pictures on instagram from my recent trip out that way: www.instagram.com/erikjohnsonphotography

    Actually, most of the pictures I take/post are from Nebraska in general.

    You can get there in about 6 hours from Lincoln, it's not too bad! Podcasts and e-books have become my best friend on those drives, haha.

    I agree. I haven't taken 92 before but I do routinely take highway 2 northeast out of Grand Island after taking i80 for that short stretch. You can get into the panhandle in about 6-7 hours.

    isn't hwy 2 also i80 in that stretch? it kind of gets lost on the map from Nebraska City once it hits Lincoln lol

    You should invest in a gps. Then you can make routes to follow and not get lost lol

    @BraskaTaco
    Your NE photos are impressive, as are the non-NE ones. I've not spent much time in the SE but I know it has beauty too. In fact beauty can be found everywhere, not many can see it. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you! There’s definitely lots to be found if you just do a little exploring. I think that’s part of the reason why I love this state, it takes a little more effort but that makes it all the more rewarding once you find the awesome spots.

    @BraskaTaco Also NE = Nebraska; which is what I intended. Went right by me too. I love the evening and morning light in the Sand Hills

    Clocked 600 miles of cornhusker trails today
    Had some mild hp gains with a fresh gloss on partial frame section

    N-74 from Minden is flat, straight and never ends lol
    But N-10 from Loup city was a treat to the Kansas border other than rough patches in and around Minden, high rec on that route if you are in the area

    The archway in Kearney popped out of nowhere! I don't recall seeing that in 14 years
