Traveled a bit to see the eclipse today. Made it a day trip. Fire, beers, family, a middle eastern style brunch (shakshuka) and some lunar activity. Clouds obscured the view a bit, but was able to see the eclipse in spurts. Tons of area to explore out here...

Got the Fox 2.5s back from the tuner after a revalve and spring change. Wanted to try it out on some washboard and rocky stuff. It performed as well as I'd hoped. Went to some hot springs as well.

Anyone go from a 2nd gen Tacoma to GX470? What are your thoughts on how they compare?

What's a normal price for one?
I would like to think $10k. I know many people that bought them for that much. And in the past every one I've seen was that much.

However, 2023 is a different time. Folks make millions playing video games and farts in a jar can be found on eBay.
Likewise, I do see them now listed up to $25k online, which seems unrealistic.
(we're talking stock here, with miles owned by random folk and unknown service history)

Too many variables. Year, miles, service history, overall condition, etc.

Personally, I wouldn’t pay more than $12k for one in good shape.

    that's what I think honestly...

some of the ones I see on FB clapped out, never had anything done to them
ppl tryna bite off overland clout cuz one was in a magazine, meanwhile theirs 300k mi on original oil change missing a seat and door karate kicked

I wonder if there's a best place to find them, or just luck searching everywhere all the usuals, including dealers

TW seems the best place to look for Tacomas, but GX enthusiasm may not be as big enough a phenomenon to have it's own forum version of that

Chalk me up for the "overland clout" crowd. Bought mine for $16k with 150k miles, immaculate maintenance with bumper/winch/sliders and zero rust. Put a bunch of money into it for maintenance and repairs/mods.

I was originally looking for a T4R back in 2018, but they were more expensive and in worse condition than the GX's. Clean GX's can be found, but people are on to the GX secret.

I have both. I like the power delivery on the gx over the Tacoma, even tho the Tacoma is supercharged. I have more fun driving the Tacoma but more comfort driving the GX. I don’t feel as cramped in the GX as I do in the Tacoma but I feel like sitting in the Tacoma fits like a glove. Just different experience to me. Can’t say I prefer one over the other. One week I like the Tacoma more then next week I like the gx more.

Man, I just remembered that we wheeled together at rock therapy back in the day. You have the red Tacoma with the crawlbox right? :fistbump:

I did exactly this. Bought mine from a guy locally who had it brought up from Texas (I’m in Massachusetts) so a southern car pulls a premium. The GX is a 2009 with 125k miles and has a dobinson 3.5” long travel lift, re-geared to 4.56 and 33s. I paid 18k which I thought was a great price considering the condition and work done. The Lexus is much more comfortable and quieter than the 2nd gen. Granted I lost a lot of utility and MPGs getting the Lexus but it is so much nicer.

Do you have FB? If so, join GXOR Marketplace...tons of them for sale and probably the best place to look.

I got my 06 sport non-nav for $7500 back in late 2020. Granted it had zero maintenance done and the interior was trashed by two kids, but nonetheless it was a solid deal.

Had a 06 silver Double cab Tacoma at the time. I think we ran metal masher.

I went from a 2011 Tacoma which I still own to a 2007 GX470. I bought it for $16.5k with 89k miles back in 2019. There was nothing that needed to be done with it maintenance wise other than a timing belt change. I don't regret the purchase one bit. Much more comfortable to drive than the Tacoma and the power band is better suited for the weight of these vehicles.

I drove a couple GX460’s but ultimately decided to go with the Tacoma. I really like the Lexus; maybe next time. I wish they’d go back to the previous generations “transfer case” where it could be put in neutral and flat towed behind an RV.

Been a minute since I've posted. Installed new Baja Designs fog lights and a new roof rack from Victory 4x4, along with buying a new house (with a shop and lift). Pretty happy with the end results.

    New lights...

Installed the rack today. The lift made it easier to do solo. Doggo had to check the work out to be sure everything was installed properly. Also had to get the rig in the air just to test things out.

Was getting tired of the setup and takedown of the old folding style RTT, so I got a new wedge style unit. CVT was having a pretty good sale, so I picked up a 270⁰ awning too.

Tried it out for the first time this weekend and it was a game changer. Only takes a minute or so to get everything set up. Worth every penny.

Just ordered all the parts to do timing belt, water pump, fan clutch, and LCA's with new cam bolts. Spent $2500 for OEM parts from Bell Lexus.

The GX will be down for a few weeks, but excited to get the work done.
