I don’t have any social media other than TW fortunately/unfortunately but I can definitely tell they are both super popular these days.

I assume the general consensus is that paying around $10K for one with ~200K miles is reasonable? That’s about my price range and the ones listed in that range all seem to have about the same mileage and are in decent shape otherwise.

I would think with regular maintence and some replacement parts you can get these trucks to 400K miles or so although I haven’t come across any really high mileage ones yet.

Well, time to do water pump and timing belt again after 90k miles from the first time. Purchased all parts from Bell Lexus. Decided to do the fan bracket and clutch this time. Everything apart, hoping to have it back together by tonight. Anyone else OCD and need to label everything, haha.

That was my thought as well, I wonder if the frame is trashed. Something must be wrong with it lol

Right, I felt like that was a warning sign as well.

Well the supreme leader approved the purchase of an GX470 under $10K. I just have to decide if I’m going to commit now.

I could either build out my Tacoma really well now that it’s paid off, or do 2 mild builds (Tacoma & GX).

I’m taking the Taco on a cross country road trip next month so I probably won’t start seriously looking until after the trip. Meanwhile, I’ve been reading through the 200+ pages of the southeast broverlanding thread.

Frame is probably trashed and white paint is shit. They all flake and peel eventually. PASS.

Goooood too know. I know about the infamous white paint issue with the Tacomas, I didn’t realize it was an issue with the GX’s as well. Obviously that makes sense though.

It’s a hit and missed on the 070. I had an 08 for years with no issue, same as my current 06. But I can’t say the same for my buddy’s 07.

I did see some talk of 2008’s being among the most desirable years in my research. My Tacoma is black and it’s such a PITA to keep clean, I’d like to avoid another black vehicle. White has never been my jam either.

Well the wife is now actively trying to get me to buy a GX (said no one ever). So…

If anyone comes across any decent non-nav GX’s up for sale, around $10K but I’m willing to go up some, I would love a link! I’m obviously searching for the perfect candidate myself as well.

Got a new seal driver from Cruiser Patch today. Fully set now to do rebuild the front end with OEM parts. New CV axles, LCA's and all new cam bolt hardware. Front end will be like new in no time...

Oh man, forgot this thread even existed

Popped a P0340 just recently, and drew a bit of blood while I worked my way to replace it.

    20241127_102522.jpg

Kind of a bitch to get to but at least there's not much to remove to get there.

    20241127_163037.jpg

After yanking out the old one, I put her back together only to get a sort of weak cranking.

    20241127_163841.jpg

Shouldn't have been the case since I had pulled the battery and left it on my charger.

Then suddenly while cranking over it quit.

    Cause? Starter died.

First time doing a starter on a 2UZ and I have to say, if you've got any physical disabilities, you're going to hate life (bad back).

    20241214_164717.jpg

Got her replaced and buttoned up same day fortunately and that fixed it......until I pulled a P0330 code.

This is for the knock sensor (passenger side). In a haste to put everything together, I'm pretty sure I must've hit the plug or something and probably broke it so I've got parts on the bench waiting to be installed.

I've got a new knock sensor and knock sensor plug to install because I don't want to go back at it again.
