I replaced both front hubs 1 year ago (maybe 15K miles). I have one going out again evidently, by the growling sound. It's not the front diff bearing as the sound does not go away in 4wd & the sound changes as I swerve left to right/right to left.
What would cause a quality hub bearing (built by 1 of the vendors on here. Jersey Hubs or something like that.) to already go bad?

.....and wheel/tire weight and excessive negative wheel offset and/or spacers.

They can all contribute to premature bearing failure

    Plus offroading will exacerbate it.

I had the same tires/lift for the factory set of hubs & they lasted much longer.
I had the same tires/lift for the factory set of hubs & they lasted much longer. Only running 285/75r16 on factory OR wheels.

I did much harder wheelin' w/the factory set than I have w/this set.

    Thanks for the input!

Did you Torque the Axle Nut to the proper Torque.

Did you replace BOTH dust seals?
There is one on the back of the spindle AND one on the CV Axle.

I've replaced both of my with a prepressed bearing from rock auto so far so good. I think it was a doorman bearing. But I have the same grind/hum . checked balljoints and needle bearings and still cant find the culprit of this noise. Anxious to hear others post on this thread.

    Proper torque, yes.
I did nothing to the CV axle. The hub was pre-built & I did nothing more than remove the old ones & replace the new ones. Both sides @ the same time.

Hmmmm. Koyo generally makes good bearings. Dorman, don't get me started, but it wasn't the hub that went south. I wonder if whoever assembled (press fit) the parts together didn't use the proper process? Then again, it could just be a fluke.

The guy who built them has sold 100's on here & elsewhere. I guess he could've messed this one up but he does know what he's doing.

When I replaced hubs last time, I didn’t install the dust shields (I never reuse them as they just hold mud and rocks).
Could that have anything to do with these new hub only lasting ~12k miles?

I'm guessing the problem is that you didn't replace all 4 inner seals(2 each side).

These are attached to the drive axles, not the hubs?
All the threads I read about replacing the hubs didn’t say anything about replacing seals.

1 is pounded onto the CV joint. 1 is pounded into the knuckle. 1st line of defense against water and 2nd line of defense.

If the sound goes away when you're turning, it's probably a bad front wheel bearing. If you turn left and it quiets, it's most likely the RH bearing as the axial loading increases and silences it.

On the inner seal on the knuckle I don't usually change them unless it looks like water is getting past it - mostly because this adds a lot of time to the job. If you pull the hub assembly and there's corrosion inside the knuckle, water got in somewhere. At reassembly, I put a thin coating of RTV on the mating surface of the knuckle and on rotor backing plate where the bearing mates; this seals everything up and keeps water from reaching the o-ring inside
