Help, I replaced my front passengers side hub assembly and everything seemed to be running fine until this morning. I noticed a clicking noise and when I place pressure on my brakes there's a loud rumbling/grinding noise coming front the passengers side. Any ideas of what it might be?

Thought I'd reach out to you guys before going to a shop!

Jack up the front end, push/pull (12/6 o'clock position) on the tire and spin the wheels to check for abnormal movement/noises. Then pull off the tire and check the brake pads.

Had the same issues with mine. Went ahead and changed both of them at 170k with those pre-assembled Dorman ones that Orielly's sells. They were very straight forward to install; if you can change your brakes, you can handle this. Mine were humming so bad up to 70mph, they were droning with my exhaust. Make a turn or take a curve, the droning stopped. No issues with 9k miles on them. I do plan on rebuilding the original ones at some point with some new bearings and seals to use as a backup set.

It's also a good idea to replace the seal on the back side of the spindle. It's more work because you need to take the spindle off, but the bearing will last longer. When you have the spindle off you can use a needle fitting on the grease gun to squirt some fresh grease inside the rubber boots of your upper ball joints and tie rod end joints.

Buy the entire hub assembly, do it yourself and save some coin. I did mine by myself with little mechanical knowledge. Wasnt very hard at all.

Anyone know a trick to install the inner seal without removing the spindle?

Question. Did any of you have a damaged hub from the bad wheel bearing? Or is part of the replacement the "hub".

A local TW trusted shop quoted me just under $500 to replace my front right wheel bearing... But he said the hub might be bad, too, from the rubbing and wear of the bad bearing. Said thatllt add another $200 to my bill for a new hub.

    Is this bullshit?

The hub might be bad depending on how long you drove on it but it shouldn't cost $200 for the part. and it's less work if you don't have to cut the races off the old hub

Well, he quoted like $490 for the job.... Then said IF it's bad, the hub part costs $200, but they only charge for the part... You're saying the labor time/cost would go down if they also did the hub?

I drove on it for about a week @mynewtoy .. well, I could hear it for a week

you won't know if it's bad until you pull it apart. if the bearing seized it could allow the race to turn on the hub wearing a groove in it

Ah ok. Thanks for the info. The noise was pretty loud from about 35 mph and faster, that's the only time I could hear it though.

Hope I don't have to replace the hub too. That's expensive. I coulda/shoulda done it myself.

I don't know what to tell you there. I have never dealt with a shop I do all my own work. I would call BS on that part price before they touched my truck. Or just go to another shop
