With 86,000 on my 09 Tacoma last April, I was hearing a ever so slight noise at low speeds. I thought it might be the rear making the noise and took it to my mechanic whom I have total faith in. He took lt for a ride with his top mechanic riding in the back and determined it to be a front wheel bearing. Most likely the left. He said that neither left or right made noise when spun by hand and it may be the right, not left. No looseness either. He replaced the left and found the old bearing to have a small pit on each race to cause the noise. Cost me $575 and has come loose with only 10,000 miles on it!! I had it replaced under a two years from first install date warranty.
I will replace the right hub myself!! Thanks to the OP, this is a job I'm sure I can handle.
OP, PM sent and thank you!!

You never know if they torqued it properly. I have seen over/under torquing the 35mm nut smoke a bearing in less than 10k. Also, if they reused the hub flange it could shorten the life of the bearing. My guess would be using an impact gun on the nut -- keep an ear out for that bearing.

OP, thanks for the reply. You could very well be right. Although my mechanic is an Ace, and I am confident it was torqued properly.
Could not retorquing at 400 miles be reason for it to fail ?

This is how I have been packaging a pair of hubs. surround them in paper and then top it with paper so it fairly tight, no movement. I'm not sure if it's how I package them or if USPS are savages with these which causes the boxes to be tore up by the time they get to you guys?

It could be that they weigh 25 pounds and are in a small package?
