    Hi Kev,
I don't know if this has been asked, I spent some time on this thread. 45 pages!!, I couldn't hang in there for the full 119 pages. Okay, to the point. Can someone place threads on a 4x4 hub and drill a hole into the prerunner nut and thread the hole. Then place a lock screw to it. Could this be cheaper then buying a prerunner assy? Or just drill a hole through one side and place a cotter pin in it?

Well you definitely won't find an answer to that in this thread.

You are asking for big time trouble doing that. When it fails you are going to be putting out more money for calipers, rotors & the appropriate Prerunner hub assembly.

I highly suggest that you DO NOT try this.

If you can be without your truck for a week, send me your hubs, I will inspect them and press new bearings. Not something I usually do.

I am proud to add a little more to my 4x4 assembly kits for NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Now when you purchase a 4x4 assembly you will automatically receive a new 35 mm nut & a new cotter pin!

A little more piece of mind now that you know you have a fresh cv axle nut. Same goes for a new cotter pin that you won't have to straighten out to install, or run to the parts store to replace the one that you just snapped!

Just a little something to help keep this 100% DIY hub replacement as smooth as possible  and a way of saying thank you to all of my customers.

here is a bearing I just pulled apart under warranty. customer had less than 3,000 miles on the bearing. as you can see the Mobil 1 grease is still fairly clean (except for the burnt areas). Customer admitted he used an impact gun on the 35 mm nut.

please follow the proper procedure of 173 ft pd's -- not a pipe wrench, breaker bar, or impact gun and you will get plenty of life out of your bearing

I went and looked both hubs. The Prerunner hub/axle is longer. So, the treaded part are on the extra length of the axle. So, there no way of converting the 4x4 hub.

No there's not. Like I said I wouldn't even attempt it. The O.D. of the hub is large, I dont see a local hardware store having a die that size.

The 4x2 is $100 more, I would just spend the extra $100 and send me the old one for inspection/rebuild.

Glad I found this thread. Can't believe the stealership charges $495 in labor just to replace the bearings.

Yeah a local shop wanted $570 for parts and labor. I even asked them if I just brought them the hub how much would it cost and he still said about 3 hours of labor to press out the old and press in the new bearings
