The 2005+ Tacomas have a sealed, non-serviceable wheel bearing that can wear prematurely if the seal between the bearing and flange or cv dust seal becomes damaged.

When the bearing wears out you will typically hear a noise in the front end. You can diagnose which side is bad by lifting the front end and spinning the tire by hand. You will hear a grinding noise.

why are the hub/flange/bearings assemblies so expensive for the 2x4 prerunner? Folks can just buy the bearing for $60-70, buy the seals. remove old flange hub from truck, take it to a machine shop that charge $25-30 per flange to remove the old bearing and press the new one in, Put it back in TRuck, YA DONE...EASY STUFF MAN

There is no aftermarket hub flange for the Prerunner, unfortunately at this point it is a dealer only item. Dorman and a few other companies produce a 4x4 hub flange, so the savings are reflected in the price.

Yes, going about replacing the bearing and seal only would be cheaper for the Prerunner but there are a few things that make the all new assemblies a better option.

    1. Easier swap & less down time

    2. All new parts

    3. Guaranteed & warrantied work that is done 100% correctly.

If the hub flange seal surface is pitted or damaged in anyway you will be replacing the bearing again due to an improper seal between the flange and seal itself. This will allow outside elements into the bearing which will make it wear prematurely.

I build these hubs on a regular basis. I have the correct setup on my press to support the bearing while pressing in the flange.
I have the SST to install the new nut and also torque the nut to the proper specification which is imperative to the life of the bearing.

Your welcome Sean. I'm glad your back up and running. Some people swap both, some people do them one at a time. Thank you for checking in after the swap
