Received and got one side installed today. Parts look great! The howling is gone, but now I can hear all of the other squeaks and whistles my truck makes.

    Will follow-up after some miles

    Thanks, 05Taco4x4!

Hey @05Taco4x4, or anyone else that might know, I just installed one of the hubs on the driver side and after pulling the CV through using the axle nut I ran out of threads and there is still a small gap between the seal on the CV and the seal in the spindle. All I can guess is that the hub is slightly thinner but maybe I'm missing something. Any ideas? The hubs aren't side specific right?

For reference, here is the passenger side that I haven't touched yet.

So i have replaced my driver side a few years ago. But now i think my passenger side is starting to go.
When i am driving i hear a light hum and when i turn to the left it goes away.
That indicates my passenger side is starting to showing a issue correct?

If you'll read back just a couple posts this was just discussed, but as far as your CV threads being short idk

Are you referring to this post? Everything was definitely lined up and I don't think the seal is catching. The CV definitely needs to be pulled through a bit further so the seals mate, but running out of threads on the axle nut means I can't do it that way. Also means even if I do get it pulled through all the way that then I won't be able to torque down the nut against the hub. I'll try fiddling with it some more and might put the stock hub back on to see if the gap remains.

One thing I might have done different than others, was I pulled the CV out of the hub first, then removed the hub. Made removing the hub a lot easier since I wasn't fighting the splines and I was concerned about prying and pulling on the hub with the CV attached since it seemed like it might have been putting pressure on the CV seal (is it possible the CV seal was bent back from prying on the hub?). So conversely, for the install, I put the hub on first, then attempted to pull the CV back through it, at which point I ran into this issue.

Right, more specifically the recommendation after that post to use the old nut to pull the CV in.
The color of the last few threads of the CV don't look worn the same as the others, as if the nut wasn't that far down. I'm seeing rust too, thinking that CV wasn't even installed that far down the last time (and possibly why the bearing failed?).

Yeah I used the nut to pull the CV through, was working great till I ran out of threads lol. Noticed the color difference as well and I presumed that's where the nut had been sitting before. The rust is kind of interesting, wouldn't expect it to be there. I think my bearing failed for just the usual increased ware of larger tires (was running 33s for 4 years and now I'm on 35s, but it was making the noise before the 35s). I also had excessive positive camber for several of those years because I didn't get aftermarket upper arms to correct it, and I think that contributed to ware on the bearing.

Ok I'm pretty sure it's because the seal was bent backwards while prying on the hub with the CV still installed. Was hard to get the pics to show it clearly, but top is the driver side that I'm working on, and bottom is the passenger side that I haven't touched.

Would you sell just a single hub. I replaced one side a few years back and now the other side is in need.

Ok, the seal is bent so appeared not fully seated.

Changed out wheel bearings and brakes to oem. Old bearing looked decent but drivers definitely had some drag to them, and now no shimmy shake...but now I know the noise really came from my tires

Yep, that's all it turned out to be :facepalm:So just a word of caution if you do plan on reusing your existing CV seal, not that I recommend you do but it's your choice, you should pull the CV out of the hub/spindle before removing/prying on the hub. With the CV still installed, prying on the hub will pull on the seal and bend it. Personally I think pulling the CV out of hub/spindle makes it much much easier to remove and install the hub anyway since you're not having to fight the splines on the CV at the same time.

Anyway, both hubs installed and the infernal noise is gone! Like many people I thought it was the needle bearing in the diff and replaced it with the ECGS bushing, which is definitely a good upgrade, but unfortunately didn't resolve the noise. New wheel bearings and the noise is gone! Thanks @05Taco4x4!
