Hahaha true... i have it and i hate it, I try to forget about it all the time. I don't know about the GM ones but I know I hated fords "automatic" hubs that were on my Bronco II, they like to disengage when you roll backwards in reverse so you'd lose front wheel drive at the WORST times!

I need to do this also. My drivers side rear wheel bearing went on me last month and I figure at 188k the fronts are due.

also Harbor freight has a press for short money.

That press will do the rears but won’t come close to handling the front bearings. You’ll want a 20T minimum for the fronts.

If you go the at home press route, don't forget to budget for press sleeves and additional plates or fixtures.

And a blast shield! when that bearing was starting to move it made horrifying sounds. I tucked my tail and hid behind the tire machine while cranking the handle.

Watch Timmy the Toolman's videos on youtube if haven't already. It will give you an idea of what you need for this job. It's a pita of a job but doable. I just ended up buying the parts & taking the steering knuckle to a machine shop to do the press work.

You shouldn't need new hubs unless the people doing the job damage the originals. If I remember correctly, besides the bearing & seals, there is also a spacer ring in there that you might need if the old one gets damaged during the process of removing the old bearing, which happened to me.
