If I put a set of 2020 Tacoma wheels with wheel sensors on my 2012 reg cab will the tpms work?

Pretty sure that is a no. Would need to put your current sensors in there.

Why not take sensors out of old wheels??

not sure if you can see but that is a standard valve stem. So I don't think there is a TPMS sensor. that is the spare off of my 2009 tacoma.

I see. Mine doesn't have a sensor in the spare, but I connected an Innova 5510 OBD scan tool to my Taco, and it appears the ECU can take 5 sensors. Thought about putting one in the spare to ensure it has air when/if I need it. I also understand that I will need some sort of programming device, like this one?

I'm just learning all of this stuff in order to avoid the stealership; I'm tired of being ripped off.

My spare has a sensor and my 07 registers 5 sensors.

do you have all alloy wheels or the steel wheel? I'm just trying to see if it was a thing. I know they can hold up to 5 sensors, I've installed one into a set of 5 wheels and programmed to an ECU. but at that time I was working for Subaru and just did it because I was asked to do that.

3rd gen TPMS sensors will not work in your 2nd gen truck. If you have alloy wheels you'll need to order sensors for them. If they're steel, then you'll need to order for them. You do not have a sensor in the spare. Toyota stopped putting them in Tacoma trucks in 2009. Some 2009 trucks may have them, but most don't.

If it were me, I'd put new sensors in. Just so I wouldn't have to replace them is a year or so when the batteries start to go out.

You're gonna also have to program new sensors to the vehicle regardless of whether they worked or not. Toyota does this cool thing where you have to tell the vehicle the tpms id for it to program. I'm willing to bet the new ones would work, cause it's all based on MHz and are probably the same frequency, but they wouldn't work until they are programmed either way
