Well my front axle disconnect is shitting out AGAIN. Brand new Toyota module was installed mid August 2017. So maybe 6-7 months old.

Just Got in my truck after it’s been parked all day at work. 4wheel drive light flashing. Then it stops flashing as I leave the parking lot. So at the next red light I throw it in 4wd and nothing happens.... doesn’t even beep when I throw it in 4 low. So I restart the truck and it works just fine engaging. Then it won’t come out of 4wd and just flashes at me for 7 miles and the pops out as I’m backing into the driveway. WTF. Worst part of Toyota’s 4wd system.

I got away with not re-gearing on 285/75/16 by throwing a supercharger on the truck :D

Yes. Exactly. Disconnect at the hubs instead of splitting the axle in two.

You'd still need the actuator to engage the front diff. Same diff, same motor, same in cab switch.

The manual hubs kit only gives you the convenience of your cv axles not constantly spinning while driving in 2wd, and the ability to disengage one side if you break a cv and continue on with the other side engaged.

Why wider wheels? Factory too narrow for 12.5?

I don’t have enough info to confirm but it makes sense. I have seen 35x12.5 on a set of Pro wheels but don’t know all of the specifics beyond that.

Honestly, you can do a lot on 285s. I don’t know the type of wheeling you normally do but I’ve seen 285s get through a fair amount of shit.

I hear the mall curbs are getting rather big these days though...

You could easily do this when you install your new diff

Yeah, I've seen it. I don't think it exactly eliminates the problem. you still have to run the ADD otherwise your 4x4 module won't know what the hell to do if you lock your axle disconnect together and then unplug it. I'm sure the 4X4 light would continue to blink. I think he made them for better fuel economy and saving your front end bearings for more use while running down the highway in 2wd.

not a bad idea at all to swap over to the FJ Diff tube. Wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. Hell the ADD module is about the same price. but as I just stated before, there becomes the flashing 4x4 light due to the 4wd module knowing what is going on. OP's solution below:
    Add.jpg

So instead of reprogramming or actually tricking the 4x4 module in to thinking there is still a axle disconnect, he just wired his 4x4 dash lights to his switch.

I just hate blinking lights and doing a fix like that isn't the right way to do it. I would rather trick the module into thinking the add is still there and working properly.

No, all that does is eliminate the add tube and permanently connect passenger cv to the differential.
Yeah, it would slightly decrease Mpg but not by much, after all, the driver side cv is still in the diff and spinning
