When should I replace fluids?

I have just completed my first trip towing a trailer. It's pretty light weight (approx. 2350 lbs. dry) but I did put on 6500 miles with lots of climbs. I currently have about 51,000 miles on the truck. When should I replace brake, transmission and engine coolant fluids?

Did you look in the owner’s manual for that info? Just an idea....

 

Yes, 60,000 miles but that's the suggested. Hoping for some real life experiences.

 

60K sounds good.

A lot depends on the history of the truck. Do you know when it was last done? And how was the truck used before you got it (assuming you got it used) etc.

If the fluids are topped off and look OK, change at 60K.

 

I bought it new, used very easily except for the recent trip towing a trailer. All fluids are topped up and I have the oil changed every 5,000 miles so I think I'll wait until 60,000 for the other fluid changes. Thanks for your input - I never trust my Toyota dealer, they're always trying to up sell the service.

I cannot recommend enough a transmission oil cooler. I recently put in a

$52 Hayden 679 Universal 11” Rapid-Cool Add-On Transmission Cooler to Enhance Cooling (not for direct replacement of the factory unit)

Hayden 679 and now see temps consistently 40-50 degrees cooler than before.

That said, auto trans you could wait and do a full flush eventually, or do a pan drain and fill every 10-20K miles to keep new fluid introduced. I started doing that at around 70K and at this point it seems every 10K is too soon (now at 120K)...its always perfectly red and good.

Brake fluid is every 2 years since it absorbs water...this can lead to calipers seizing up. I'd do that, plus its cake to do.

I bought my truck at 60K but do the diffs and xfer case every 30K. I also do plugs every 30K since they are the Denso copper ones. Not sure if yours uses those or the iridium ones, which are said to be good for 100K.

Coolant is 100K

Power steering is easy too, cant hurt to do that. Not sure on an interval there...maybe 50K

 

Just go with what the manual says. You sound like you use your vehicle regularly but not heavily, so the manual should parallel your needs. If you were towing alot or using your truck to transport alot of heavy things constantly than you would need to follow the manual but do the items sooner.
