I don't trust you. I seen many out there, with 3rd gens. Driving only the wider trails, and gravel roads.
    1st Gen for the win!!

I was being serious! My 5th gen runner has done all of the 4x4 trails there (with some rock garden bypasses) and with my 3rd gen it went just as easily. The runner is nearly an inch wider than my 3rd gen (75.8” versus 75”), too. You want to see tight? Go to Evans Creek.

These are the lower loop at Tahuya. It gets pretty tight in there.

For anyone reading this in the future, don't let that stop you guys from going there in your 3rd gens. Ive got a longbed 3rd gen and I went out there for a half day. Didnt do the crazy rock stuff, but theres plenty to get full articulation still. Just be careful and either get a spotter, or do like I did and just get out 50 times. I installed a front camera which was amazeballs for that.

I’m new... looks like I missed it. I’m in Puyallup. Let me know when you guys go for another trip there.

Dammit! One weekend too late! I'd be in if anyone goes back. I went through about 3/4 of the trails in my 3rd gen and it fit fine. I did end up getting out and looking a bunch and there were definitely some tight squeezes but no problems.

Maybe it's just me, being on the side of slow and sensible.
Someone here, early-on after I joined the forum, made a comment, 4Low & Slow.
My being new to 4Xing, was my approach on all trails at Tahuya.
The worst of the day was a tire off the bead, due to pulling sideways, in reverse, due to my son getting hung up on some big rocks.
I wheel mine on the side of cautious, due to babying it, all it's previous life.

Nothing wrong with that! I’m pretty cautious with the new truck as well. Wish I was more that way when I had my first gen!

I'm looking to go out to Tahuya or any other open trails this Sunday? Anyone interested?

I would be down, I was planning on going out somewhere this weekend. I was thinking about checking out Reiter Foothills but I just saw it doesn't open until Memorial Day weekend.

I'm down for anywhere. Tahuya is just consistently reliable for trails.

Hey guys, any one know of a place that can help with undercarriage rust? The 2004 Tacoma I bought from the Midwest has a reasonable amount of it. Frame was replaced ten years ago.
    I’m from the Puyallup/Tacoma area.

Wanted to see if we can keep this thread going. I've been out to Tahuya several times, never had any issues on any of the trails. Granted I have a short bed and rear locker so most obstacles were easy. For anything difficult you can usually go around. Anyone interested in meeting for a day of wheeling?

I'd love to but unfortunately I'm laid up with a broken foot until mid/late August. I've done Walker Valley a couple of times and that place is pretty cool too. I've been wanting to check Reiter Foothills as well but haven't had a chance to make it up there. If you can't find anybody, give me a 6-8 more weeks and I'll be so starved for outside time, I'll go anywhere :D

I totally missed your post earlier, I don't know of anywhere to go but you may want to post in the NW WA Meet/BS Thread, lots of cool, nice folks with tons of info on local places.

Broken foot? Ouch, sorry to hear that. Ive done that myself, extremely painful!! Ive done Walker several times too, not sure which I like better. Have not done Reiter yet so I will have to check that out soon. Stay off the foot and maybe I will reach out in about 2 months:thumbsup:

    Ouch, good luck with recovery.

I tried Walker but couldnt get past the gates. (Long bed at the time). Now that I have a 4R I might try again once I get armor.

I was pretty intimidated by the gate keepers, however I was out with a 4wd club and they spotted me so I had no problems. The fear is pretty much gone but I'm still pretty green getting through there, the armor and a locked diff is a must. I haven't tried getting through there with just me, that's on the list once I get back on my feet.

Are you on stock suspension? Any lift?

I was on a stock longbed. I either didnt know where to go, or there was zero chance to get around a gate. Went over some rocks in another part and got stuck pretty good on the first set of rocks, so just went home lol.

No lift then, no lift now. And I dont have skidplates for the 4R yet. (Still trying to sell the RCI ones from my Taco)
