Has anyone heard if Toyota will at least update the 2011 Tacoma to have dual VVT-I? They have updated the 4.0 for the FJ Cruiser and 4runner with dual VVT-I.

I know there has been a lot of speculation regarding the next generation, however they can update the engine/transmission without doing new skins. For example the 2010 FJ Cruiser (Dual VVT-I 4.0). Another example is the 2010 Tundra, all new engine and transmission option (4.6 liter with 6 sp auto instead of old 4.7 liter with 5 speed auto).

It doesn't make much sense to build two 4.0 V6 for the trucks, and truck based SUV's.

    My 2 cents.

ok seriously.... we both know that our trucks dominate the ranger... there's no "competing" to be done.

Apparently the Ranger is dead. No 2012 model.

I had a Ford Ranger back in 1988. 2.3L 2WD, bare bones truck. It never gave me an issue with 12 years of ownership. Basically nothing to break.

I called my local dealer today regarding purchasing a new Tacoma. During our conversation I asked him when/if we will see the 4.0 Dual VVT-I in the Tacoma and when is the scheduled redesign. I could hear him looking through some papers and he stated to me that the redesign is scheduled for model year 2011 or 2012.

    1) I was a little surprised he had this information.
    2) Also surprise that there was a range and not a dinfinitive model year. I questioned 2011 OR 2012, and all he could state was that's the information they had recieved from Toyota.

Does anyone know if the information the dealers carry with regard to future models is accurate?
