Hah! That’s exactly what I did!

I was at zero and saving like mad in 2012. Then I moved to Arkansas with the former girlfriend. Well...that was a disaster that turned into a heap of debt. Im back at zero again and saving again.

I’d really like to stop working full time around 50-53 and live in my truck and travel and just work here and there. I’m well on my way.

I’m a chef/manager. By the time I was 35 I’d worked more hours in my life than most people do at 65. I don’t want to work anymore.

It’s custom but not all that custom. The tank is from a 1991 Ford F-150.
I know, I know...my truck is part Ford. It’s got SAE fasteners too. I’ve learned to accept it. I can sleep at night nowadays.

It’s on my build thread. The link is below in my sig.

Can the docking arms underneath be widened somehow to accept a 33" spare?

Yes. I just mounted a 285/75/16 under mine with no issues at all. Bend the rear docking arms back a couple inches.

Do you need to cut them all off, or just the back two?

At least keep the front ones or so the axle wont hit the tire articulating. There is no need to cut....bend out the back ones like I said earlier. It takes a pair of channel locks and 30 seconds.

I cut them all off. Axle flexes fine I checked. Also, the cable keeps the tire against the bed...don't really need the front supports

I am running 285/75/R16 tires, too. Here is a photo showing the original spare (31") tire. (Not sure why I have been driving around with a useless spare all of these years.) There is not much space between the leaf spring on the left and the TRD cat-back on the right.

    Here's how I put a 255/85/16 under the bed:

When I was on 255/85s I had a pro comp angled mount like thunderone. Now that I went up to 37s it's just wratchet strapped in the bed up against the tailgate. If I did it all over again, I would have done the same with my 255s. That mount sucks up soooooo much bed space especially when you want to use the truck as a truck. Downside is it's hard to lock up a tire strapped to the bed.

I might just do that, I guess it doesn't have to be pretty, just the right size.
