Are you looking for something quick access wise or just for storage? I’d think that it would be important to keep the forearm out of sight from the outside so anything that attaches to the back of the seat is out IMO.

Unless you’re thinking for just range days. Than that’s an option.

After thinking more likely storage. I like the thought of my SBR being able to access it quickly but view-able to the outside while Im in a store I dont like (even if windows are tinted a bit) My pistol is the quickest to access. I wish the compartment underneath the back seat was big enough to put my rifle in. My cousin has a tundra and he is able to put a 16 inch ar broke down in his.

I have always wondered if an AR would fit under there. I’ve never tried it, but I would think that with the upper/lower separated you could fit a rifle. Especially an SBR.

I will try it when I get home in the morning just to see if it will fit separated. Checked out you build and your truck looks nice. Same color as mine or very very close to it. I posted it in the new member area. Im just ready to get it how I want it. Takes time, money, and approval from my wife haha

If you aren’t wanting quick access just put them in cases and toss them in the bed or backseat. No need for fancy shit to carry guns to the range and back.

Right on, keep me posted. If I get itchy I’ll try it myself but CA firearm laws are pretty stupid so I don’t get to have many fun “legal” options in that regard.

Thanks! She does most of what I need but there’s always a list. Getting your truck setup takes time, lots of patience, and even more trial and error. Best of luck to you!

Storing a rifle in a car is a cool thought, I have wanted to do it before. I like a locking console box for my pistol. But as for a rifle, I decided not to go for it. What's your climate like? If you planned on having a SHTF rifle in your truck all the time you'll have to do very regular cleaning for corrosion resistance. hot-cold-hot-cold.

Other thoughts: will you be parked in the garage or in the driveway----do you live in town or in the country? Are you going to put stickers on your truck like punisher skulls and "molon labe" to advertise that you probably have a gun hidden in your truck? In my gen 2 there is room for a rifle under the rear bench, and I will only have one there when I'm traveling far from home.

There is a lot to think about when you start thinking about having a truck gun. I am always happy to know fellow 2nd amendment supporters and firearms enthusiasts but there is a large population of the 2A crowd that has forgotten that blending in is a huge tactical advantage. Think about open vs concealed carry in public, who blends in more?

Sorry to be long-winded. Yes find a place to mount the AR but I wouldn't leave it in there all the time. It sounds like you have a CCW. Personally I just train with my carry pistol all the time because it is always on my person. The more you read about real-life self defense situations the more you see that you will need something RIGHT NOW and likely won't have time to run to the truck.

I have done this before, anyone looking in your truck probably thought you were messy, not storing a rifle.

Was kinda wanting to keep one in the truck.
Climate is SC sucks. Its either Winter or Summer to me. No in between. With all my guns I use frog lube which is pretty good but thats just on the internals (BCG, inside barrel, inside upper reciever). Parked in car porch. Live in country. My old truck had the stickers on it. New one doesnt. Yes i have my CCW. I too train along with my wife but I also train with my ar as well. Using a timer is pretty fun. Not long at all good stuff to consider. Might just cancel out on the ar in the truck and stick with my pistol.

all good info and appreciate the thoughts

I agree with the previously said and enjoy watching the responsible 2A supporter enjoy their right.

Personally, if it were an option for me, I would look into the Kel Tech Sub 2000. I use a Glock 17/19 and the Sub 2000 has variations that utilize those magazines so they are interchangeable and the rifle folds in half. It’s also mostly cheaper plastic so weather won’t be as large of a concern.

Yes the sub-2000 is awesome. Even with a red dot attached I can fold mine to fit into a laptop case-very cool. Ruger has that new PC carbine that takes glock mags as well and it breaks down.

That’s an ideal setup IMO. I have no experience with the Ruger, but I’m sure they did it right.

I don't store anything in a vehicle that I'm not willing to lose.
My firearm(s) stay on my person and when I go they go with me.

That doesn't mean I will not transport other firearms in a vehicle but I don't STORE firearms in vehicles.
When I had my last Jeep I had a steel lock box under the front seat and I modified it to make it more secure (additional bolts and improve lock). I would occasionally leave a pistol in that lockbox. I would consider something like that for my Tacoma but frankly, I don't really have a need for that.
If I needed to store a long gun in a pickup, I would use a high security tool box.

I have one of those dog hammocks that suspends from the head rests of the front seats to the head rests of the backseats. It pretty much obscures the view of anything in the footwells when looking in thru the windows.

That said, I don’t store guns in my truck very often. When I go to the range most of the guns just go in the back seat or in the footwell in cases or in the bed under the cap. At one of the ranges I shoot at we can drive from bay to bay, so I usually work out of the bed during a 3-gun match with everything laid out and accessible. It’s only when I leave the range do I secure everything and lock it up, especially if I stop on the way home for food or errands. Even tho I live in a gun-friendly state I prefer out of sight/out of mind.

MP5 will fit under the seat :anonymous: not sure if my scorpion will or not though.

Honestly, what is the purpose of keeping an AR "truck gun" for you? I know country living is different, but anywhere near a city, if you had to use it, it would be hard to explain in court.
