Currently there are no 5.29 gears available for the 8" front clamshell on the Tacomas or FJ's not enough demand according to emailing several gear manufactuers they are available for the rear third members however. I have been looking for over a year now for 5.29's and after doing some research and talking with folks that have run both 5.29's and 4.88's in earlier Toyotas (Hilux,4runner,etc) the majority have said that 4.88's overall will be stronger due to the pinion size which makes sense to me. Currently I'm running 4.88's w/ 35's on a 2009 Tacoma 2.7L 4banger for what you want to do I would say 4.88's are your best and lowest option currently available. I have a friend that I work with who is running a First Gen Tacoma (don't remember the exact year) Regular cab 2.7L 4banger with 4.88's on 31's he is real happy with his set-up although he does run high RPM's @ 60 mph and above.
