Where to get connectors?

Not Taco related per say.

I have to replaced the head unit and working on replacing the speakers in our 2011 Subaru Outback. I ordered from Crutchfield and got most of the needed plugs and what not. However, I didn't get a plug for the steering wheel controls. This is the only thing currently that I may have to splice into factory wires, which I don't want to do.

So, what are those factory connectors called and where would I look to order what I need. I can not seem to find it at crutchfield.

Ya, but Subaru and taco radio connects seem to work together. Most of the connects I used in the Subaru where Toyota part numbers. Oh and the Subaru tweeters that I order for the Tacoma, just went into the Subaru.

I picked up the

$64 axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface

axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control adapter from crutchfield, for $29 during their Christmas sale, when I replaced the radio in our '14 forester. Everything has worked great so far

 

I have the controller, just tryign to install it with out splicing into factory wires. I want to set up a harness that will connect my controller with the factory wiring harness.

I think the one I want to plug into is the one this guy is holding.


I am looking to set up a female end that I will wire to the controller and radio as needed.

What are the white/clear plugs called?

 

iDatalink Maestro would be the way to go for plug and play, but I doubt they make it for your vehicle.

Your going to have to tap/splice the factory harness. Just give yourself at least an inch of wire off of the harness if you cut it(gives you enough wire to reconnect it in the future, if needed).

 

I already have the controller, there had to be a way I can get the connector so I can make my own harness. There must be a way to do this and not splice factory wires.

 

This is the metra 70-7552 harness I received from crutchfield, wired to the XM radio and steering wheel controllers. There were only 4 wires used from that steering wheel adapter. It was just replaced a base level stereo being replaced, but I thought it was ridiculous how many of those wires didn't get used

 

Ya, that's what I got. Scared the shit out of me when I first looked at it. So what I need to do, is find the female end (like what's on the back of the stock stereo) and wire the few wires that need to be hooked up to said female end so I can plug directly into the stock steering wheel wiring harness. I think I may need to splice back into the the harness I already added for power and speakers.

 

Yeah, I spliced everything into the aftermarket harness. It took a while to figure out what went where because they were described by pin number and there were 2 different factory harnesses

Try TE. If you can get the opposite connector part # or compare the amount of pin slots by pictures. They also have the matching pins. The best part is you may be able to get a sample.

Not yet, been busy with other things, but need to get this done.

 

Try contacting @destin_meeks. He is a Geeksquad employee and was extremely helpful in finding harness options on a upgrade I was working on. He found a couple of pigtail harnesses that I could use to make a plug and play harness for my powered sub install. Nice guy and he knows his stuff.
