I did see this...but I don't have anything capable of getting high enough to get the tires off the ground from center, even with a block of wood to boost the jack. I do intend to get a taller jack...but don't have the extra money right now to do so.

I bought a Harbor Freight low profile jack. Think it costs me $70. Tall enough to get the tires off of the ground.

That would actually be really good, when I was looking for one high enough, best price I found so far was about $200.

Hmmmm, I'll check on there too, I've been avoiding ebay because the last thing I ordered I was charged for and never got, had to get ebay to step in and refund me.

For reference, the floor jack I have has a lift height of 19¾". I have a 3" lift, and my jack will get the tires at least an inch off of the ground from the cross member jack point.

Yes you definitely need to know how many inches it takes. Most of the cheaper jacks only go 14 or 15"

Just try to avoid the rusted out sections to use as jack points.

Yeah, I've only got a 14" jack in it right now...worked great when I had a chevy car. I need one in my truck that'll lift it, I intend to basically turn my back seat into storage for all this stuff so I don't have to sacrifice what little bed space I have to a toolbox.
No worries about rust at least, got a nice clean frame to work with.

And, if I'm reading that picture right, I should be lifting from here. But my truck is armored, so how does that change things? There is a little bit of room between the plate and the truck, not a lot, but it's rather not bend it or have to fight with taking it off whenever I lift

The front jack goes directly under the crossmember, center of vehicle, some people may have armor that covers that up. Also in that case, if the skid plate is pushed up against the crossmember you should still be able to still use that position. If the skid plate is not touching the crossmember you may bend it do to the weight of the truck and thickness of the skid.

Maybe you could stick a piece of 2x4 in between the armor and crossmember while you jack up the truck. Just don't forget to remove it when your done. That would help not to bend the skid. It just depends on the gap distance you have.

Lots of people do this. I have on many occasions and on many vehicles.

i guess looking at the LCA, I don’t see it has really that strong enough to hold that much weight without damaging it.
