I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport with a 4.0 1GR-FE engine. The clutch is pretty much gone at this point, any past 1/3 throttle will cause it to slip, it will reak of a burnt clutch even if you don't slip it, which I thought was odd. The Taco has 74,000 miles on it and is way overdue for a clutch replacement. I do occasionally tow a travel trailer weighing about 3 1/2 tons, I would like a clutch that could take this abuse. a lot of people have suggested a stage 3 clutch on other forum websites, but with pretty vague responses. I have gone on CARID.com and saw what looks to be pretty decent clutches, but I would like to have some more options before making a decision. Any help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to TW.

Let it be known the 2nd gen Tacoma V6's clutch setup SUCKS.

@gearcruncher and I have done some extended research into the subject and. Yeah. Sadly...

With only 74k miles I would first make sure your clutch pedal or rather master cylinder adjustment rod is properly adjusted.

If it is it may still be a worn clutch disc.

URD makes a reasonable replacement and I am running their stage two. I'm not completely sold on it however. At idle there seems to be a ticking noise that comes and goes that wasn't there with stock.

I am liking the heavier flywheel though for towing etc.

I personally would recommend, if you tow a lot, URD's heavy flywheel or a new stock flywheel they're about the same in price and each has its own plusses and negatives.

I would recommend either URD's stage 2 or a centerforce pressure plate, and a stock clutch disc.

If you want to do one stop shop though and not franken-piece-meal it URD is hard to beat for the price.

Also consider URD's clutch quil sleeve repair kit or the same device from the original manufacturer whom I unfortunately forget at the moment.

If you look into my post history for clutch stuff you'll find me threads on the subject and the mods I did as well as links to Gearcruncher's stuff and a few other folks how toos and extraneous info.

Thanks, I can see where you are coming from with this. I had looked at the master cylinder rod upon purchasing it, it has some play. I really do believe that the clutch is pretty much gone, you know, that gut feeling. The previous owner really rid the clutch when he had it because he hunted with the car deep in the woods, and I am sure that involves mainly staying in first and ridding the clutch for getting around trees.
