Which wire to tap into from driver side kick panel?

    hi TW,

    My title says all.

    1. I'm looking for the dash lights wire to tap into at the driver side kick panel for my switches (RED 2) (so that they light up when dash lights/parking lights are ON). --> ANSWERED (thanks to @CRCs Reality )

    2. Also looking for another wire to tap into, which has power always Only when the truck is ON. When truck is not running, it shouldn't have power. Ideally, I prefer a fuse location from the fuse panel underneath the steering wheel/ above the driver-side kick panel for this to use an Add-a-Fuse.

    Can you help? Thanks!

What the heck @CRCs Reality !?. I thought it would be a great idea to do this after work today, so that way I could sleep in on my Saturday.
So I came home about 7:30pm and got busy right away as soon as I put my bag down.

From the link you shared, #307, step 13 illustrates the wiring to cargo lights. This is the wire you wanted me to find.
The GREEN wire belongs to a bundle which has Blue, White, Purple, Yellow and Red. See below the one we are looking for.
From the image above, I thought he got that wire running down the kick panel through the door sill because you could see the plastic cover that covers the door sill at the bottom right corner. So I opened up my door sill, and this is what I saw :
    Obviously No green wire..
So next I cut open one of the insulation in search of this elusive green wire. And I found one that was similar in gauge and color as the original green wire.
Not to mention that bundle had a blue, white, red, black, yellow and purple wires in them.
So confident that this was it, and I started to do my splice. Battery is disconnected anyway.
Now, I hate using this kindof splice, because in the process of splicing, you also crush and cut the wire.
I used my soldering iron and burned away the insulation and then did my splice carefully, without much damage to the green wire. The RED wire is spliced to green.
    See :
I connect the battery, turn on the parking lights/dash lights ON, and checked whether I have lights on that switch. Nothing. :tumbleweed:
I confirmed with my multi-meter. There is indeed no current on that wire when the dash lights is ON or OFF. I certainly isn't my green wire.
So then, I started looking for another green wire, and cut into a plastic tubing that seemed to have a bunch of wires.
This bundle doesn't have the same colors as the original pic, but it had a green of same/similar gauge, and color, and had a yellow, black and white.
See below, if you look carefully, you could see my cut and the green wire inside:
So I burned away a bit of the insulation of this green wire, as I am skeptical whether it's the right one.
And then connected my multi-meter to check.
    See below,
    [IMG]
There is no current flow on this green wire whether the dash lights is ON or OFF. :frusty:.
Next, I started looking for a GREEN wire again.
And I found one. If you look at the image below, you could see, near the fuse panel to the very top of the kick panel,
there is a bundle with Green, Red, Black and there's a GREEN. I have a tiny yellow arrow mark pointing it out.
I am again skeptical whether it's the right one. Even though it matched the gauge and color of the original picture.
I burned away a little insulation and checked for current and any DC voltage. And it read 12.4 volts.... BUT, this wire is live at all times.
Even when the truck is completely turned OFF, irrespective of the position of lights switch.
    This isn't my GREEN wire.
    :annoyed:
There are some tiny gauge 28 green wires, but it certainly doesn't match the original picture.
I could not find any other green wire or any other color of the gauge from the original picture.
I finally gave up, and put everything away, and came here to let you know. :(.
    oh well.., . I tried.
I used liquid insulation to patch up all my splices, and hardened it and made them safe.
By now, it's nearly 12AM, and it was freezing as balls outside, and I was shaking.
I looked for a green wire in every bundle.
Unless my truck has a different wiring schematic, there is no green to be found where I looked. Of-course, I could be wrong.
From the original picture, I am not able to quite figure out where that bundle came from. I can't see where the wire is leading to or from, which is unclear
I'm beat. sleepy., cold, and tired.

FYI, From the image below, the wires that is circled in orange, they belong to my second LCD screen display, and those wires aren't the ones we are looking for. These green, purple, etc.. wires are from the LCD screens braided wire bundle you could see which I haven't yet hooked up. I bringing this up so that you don't get confused.

This is the green wire you’re looking for:

I’m trying to wrap my head around why you decided to gun for just any random green wire and burnt the insulation off one to test it.

The green wire he was referring to was coming off the dash bed light switch. Toyota likes to use plain green as the 12v+ to dash switches.

The picture is clearly showing the lower dash removed and accessing the dash switch not a random wire loom under the door sill cover.

I couldn't tell where that wire loom was coming from the picture, I didn't have my lower dash removed, and since I asked which one from the kick panel, I spent all my time searching for the wire from the looms I could see. I will try again remove the lower dash or remove the bed light switch panel and do it again, @beergeek linked a picture that helps me better now. Thanks.

It’s behind the driver’s side kick panel.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that the green wire I referenced won’t get you want. It only provides power when the cargo light is on.

The black wire that is t tapped with a yellow wire connected to it is ignition power. Which will only show 12v with the key in the on position. That 12awg green wire with the yellow arrow pointing to it is a starter wire. Although, if you have a smart key I wouldn’t use it.
