Whirring noise when AC is on

Need some help/opinions here...

When I have my AC on, I hear a whirring noise that fluctuates with RPM. Its loud enough that some people turn and look as I drive by. I turn my AC off and all is good. I live in Florida, so needless to say, the AC is on frequently. I have not noticed any quality issues with the temp of the air. Also, this whirring is not all the time...sometimes it will not start whirring after turning the AC on, and sometimes it will suddenly stop as well.

Here are my thoughts: I was thinking I would need to replace the ac compressor, but after pricing some out, I noticed that they might require oil. Is there some place that I need to oil? Am I right in thinking its my AC compressor?

Thanks but the noise I'm hearing isnt a squeal, its more like a whine.
