I have been having a whistling noise from the driver side mirror when the wind hits it around 30-35 mph .Anyone else have this issue either on the 2020 or older with the window rolled down.does not do it on the passenger side .I went to the dealer in my area had technician identify the problem stated they would correct it . The service guy came back to me later and give me the old its normal crap .Stated that there technician took out another 2020 and did the same thing and called it a day .He also stated that the passenger side mirror is different ?? I was like what ?? lol . I think he was full of crap and just didn't know how to fix the problem . What u guys think should I go to another dealer to correct this problem or take it up with Toyota customer care ?? Thanks

Make an appointment thru your dealer to have the Toyota regional rep look at it since your warranty is a performance contract between you and Toyota. The dealer is not a party to that contract.

On the freeway, the air passes in between the side mirror outer case and the part that holds it to the truck. I hear the whistling frequently. I roll up the window and make the radio louder.

Can you duplicate it on demand? Did the dealer take you out in another taco and reproduce it with you in the car? I ask because whistles and rattles can be completely subjective to the owner. My Tacoma is quieter than my Mazda 3 with windows up, down, doesn't matter. My Mazda had basically no sound deadening in the floorboard.

It really comes down to how much it bothers you and how far you want to take it. I had a friend buy a Tacoma in 2005 in California, and it had a dash rattle that didn't really bug me too much, but he took it all the way through the state lemon law, had it bought back and replaced it with a Honda Element.

the whistling is a factory installed anti-Deer scattering device, this cuts down on accidents involving Deer,Antelopes,Elk,Moose that wander onto our roads and freeways.

Open a case with Toyota if you are not satisfied with the dealer's response to you issue. I've done this with great success when my local service manager informed me certain problems were "normal" for Tacoma trucks. Every single issue I had was promptly fixed this way.

Toyota will set up a ride along in a like year model truck for you and the service manager. If the problem is present, no fix. If the problem is not preset, it will be fixed quickly.

Most likely this. Especially depending on the the market/region you are in. Might be similair to the Cold-weather optioning snow-region vehicles get by default. Either that or the control arm cut-outs.
LOL ahh yes, the Grown-man "id like to speak to the managers-manager" approach.
and speaking of the devil, I saw this in person today, and it was a sight to behold, ill tell ya.

Im in a brand-new high-volume dealer just north of Indianapolis, and had pulled my Truck into the service-staging area, where a few other employees were gathered around an obviously disgruntled customer:
-This "man" had 2 employees and the 'service-director' engaged in a raised voice, passive-aggressive talking match about the "gap" of his gas-cap door. I shit you absolutely not.
-The jr. employee asked me if he could "take a look at something on my truck real fast" as he took my keys and logged my appointment.
-He opened the gas door and shut it and I assumed it was some kind of "TSB" thing I had never heard of they were looking for.
-Not a few minutes later, after overhearing the ongoing conversation, I realize the 4 of them are in a HEATED debate over this guys insistence the "gap in his gas cover" is wrong (2018+ trd sport).
I felt abject embarrassment for the guy, and a tinge of "sympathy" (lol or as much as one can have for a dealer) for what they were being put through by this maniac.
What puzzled me most, was wondering: how did this guy get to this point? how? like how did he get utterly FIXATED on this gas-door like this?

These dealerships are bigger men than I am, There is NO.POSSIBLE.WAY. I could keep a straight-face while listening to an adult-man rattle off his special-snowflake sob-story about "the gap in the gas cap door" or obscure minutia like how the truck makes "a distinct whistling-howling noise at 60mph while driving into a north-westerly headwind" I just couldnt. Same goes for the nebulous "paint imperfections" that are just ludicrous, terrorizing on behalf of the customer.

I had the same issue with my 2016, along the top of the doors where the door weather stripping is, what I've done is added another layer to it. But I applied it to the truck side and not the door. I put right above the weather stripping that is already there. It cost about 10.00 at Home Depot. All the whistling has stopped....20200211_182009.jpg

I get the same thing from my drivers mirror area. I can stick one finger on the little fin on the black plastic a pillar corner cover thing, and the whistling stops. Hasn’t bothered me enough to bring it in but it is slightly annoying

There is a tsb for the weatherstripping replacement part for 2016's. Don't know if it is 17 +.
I had mine done just because I read it here, didn't notice a noise, but stripping looked beefier imo.

I sometimes wonder if the American Made (VIN#5's-SanAntonio Plant) trucks have a higher build quality? I have an 2017 6MT made @ the SanAntonio plant, and I have had literally zero problems in 60k miles driving like Colin Mcrae...

Are all the problem children Vin#3's from Tijuana???

I wonder why every thread that someone has a problem with their vehicle, there is always someone that tries to turn it into 'Merica vs Mexico issue. The OP's taco is a manual, which means it's from Texas.

The biggest thing for the OP is to reproduce it for the dealer so they can fix it.

That’s why on a Lexus the mirror is mounted way down on the door, to keep wind noise quiet.

I had a similar noise on my ‘20 Limited from both of my side mirrors. Mine would start the whistling noise when I got up to 30 mph or so.

While you are driving, can you place your hand/fist between the mirror and the door? If the noise stops, then add a piece of 2”-3” length tape (I used some painters tape) on the seam between the mirror cap and the mirror frame nearest to the door. If it stops, then you’ve got the same issue I had. Some firm pressure on the mirror cap along that seam will cause the mirror cap to engage the claws (also resulting in a pop/click noise). My guess is that they might not have been fully seated when initially installed.
