I took in the truck to have the dealer listen to an annoying whistle sound that comes from the windshield anytime I drive over 60km/h.

They called back and said it's because of the hood deflector (which was installed by them when I bought the truck new), and that unfortunately this noise is there to stay.

I've read on here that some new owners had this issue and it was due to a bad molding around the windshield. They said they taped over the molding and the noise was still there. And went on to explain how the hood deflector is changing the aerodynamics and bla bla.

I had doubts so I asked them to take off the deflector and test again. So I'm waiting on them to see what they find.

Anyone have any experience with the hood deflector causing a whistle sound to come from inside of the windshield?!

Also when there is snow packed under the wipers the whistle is gone. Which really points at a bad molding/seal in that area but what the hell do I know..

Make sure the put that bug deflector back exactly where it was because those things vibrate in the wind and rub the paint off. At least that was my experience. Toyota did repaint my hood though. Please report back if they find a fix. Mine does it too. But it is so intermittent it's not worth the trouble.

Take the wipers and cowl off. Make a dish soap/ water mix and put it on the seam and see if it makes bubbles with the doors closed and the fan on Hi.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Must be nice to have a vehicle fast enough to make wind noise :(

Your dealership is full of bs... it's been a problem since 2005. My 07 does it but I rarely go over 60 mph so it's not much of an issue.

No that's the kazoo noise. My issue is more of a constant whistle like a tea kettle

So they called back and said the sound went away went they took the hood deflector off and came back when they put it back on so... the only way to get rid of this noise is to get rid of the deflector.
Don't know if I believe that so I'll prolly do my own tests

Not long after I got my '05, I had this issue. On the highway I would press on the very forwardest part of the upper console nearest the windshield and actually change the tone of the whistle, so the source was pretty much nailed. (With some time and skill I could amaze my captive passengers with renditions of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star... j/k.)

A few months later an unseen rock chip would put a nice horizontal crack the length of the glass, and once it was replaced: no more Twinkly Stars. :lalala:

Ya I'm sure they know what's causing it but might not be willing to redo the seal because Toyota won't reimburse them

I have the whistling windshield noise on my 2015. My noise starts at around 30 mph and I don't have a hood deflector. It goes away when I drive in the rain,I guess the water creates a barrier for whatever is causing it. I have been planning to take it to the dealership but it seems like it rains every time I have a day off.
