State inspection passed. She's a thirsty one. I'm kinda wondering what's going on with this uneven/higher LTFT, the STFT looks good.

 

New hoses should be here next week, took the slow boat from China. I keep going back and forth on putting in the new radiator at the same time... I know I should while I have the hoses off, but the old one is still fine and I don't want to do more work right now..

 

but then as soon as you do the hoses, the radiator pukes..... (this is how my luck works)

do it now, do it once (hopefully.....it is an aged Rover)

 

Yea I know that's what I should do.. Ugh

 

It’s documented that putting new hoses adds “stress” to an old radiator ... do the rad swap

 

They're here, Sadly faster than the vape(I mean smoke machine) that I ordered from Charlotte that has yet to ship 0stars vaping is bad mmmkay... Initial looks seem good. Got a new PEL500110 thermostat too.

 

WITF never ceases to amaze me how complicated English (and French cars for that matter) can make things. Those hoses look like octopuses and that is weird to have a "remote" t-stat.

 

haha dude on the rover forum got specs on the hoses from the manufacturer so he could get new hose clamps, they sent him IDs lol... I verified them and got ODs, they're kinda all over the place.

 

And some odd #s at that. Well at least these would hold up a lot better than the rubber stuff.

 

Maybe it's mislabeled and that's stft???? That is really odd

Hoses and Radiator are installed and it's mobile. The install was rushed because moving and will be finished/fully mounted when I get more time to build proper brackets.

 

Moved the rover out of the new garage to work on shelves and lights and let it warm up/charge up the battery. Then smelled coolant and saw steam coming out from under the hood. I was scared at first when I opened the hood... Looked like coolant leaking out from under the valve cover.. But then I saw that it was just running over the top and down from the throttle body heater tubes. Just another thing moving itself to the top of the list.

 

Replaced the leaking mis match of old brittle plastic, old rubber hose, and fuel line with a run of silicone heater hose. Then moved it out of the wife's side of the garage.

*eventually it looks like I'll need to replace the gasket on the throttle body heater plate.

 

One more spring hose clamp left down there in the depths of the radiator hose.. The concrete is too cold and my back/muscles are sore. Good enough for now, next time I change the oil having the filter off will help get at that one better.

 

Ordered a new coolant reservoir cap, old one is brittle and cracked. In the mean time I rented a powerbuilt coolant pressure tester from Autozone. Low and behold the BMW #5 cap fits perfectly.


So it's held 15psi long enough to preheat the oven, cook a red Baron pizza, and eat it. I'll consider that a pass.

After some closer inspection it looks like my leaks are coming through the layers of the hose...

 

I swear this thing has spent more time idling in my garage/driveway than on the road since I started resurrecting it. New(new) upper radiator hose just went in and it seems to be leak free. @Taco_life

 

Operation stop the rain(leaks) continues inside today. Pulled out the headliner to get a better look at why the sunroofs are leaking. While it's out I'll refinish the headliner and install some new trim exterior trim pieces that needed the interior trim panels taken off anyways.

 

any chance that may be made of ABS plastic ? MEK and LEGOS could be a solution to melting things back together (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)
