My .2 cents on the 2nd gen "access cab" tundra, (which I have with the 8ft bed) is that it has as much if not more back seat room than the 1st gen full double cab tundra did. I grew up in the back of that one, and I can tell you it didn't fit four full grown adults comfortably for any long stretch of time.

I have both. The tundra is more comfortable to drive, but dang the MPG sucks. Tacoma is better for trails obviously

Hmm I've been driving a F150 3.5EB for a year now and I get the same MPG as my Tacoma did. Driving the same roads going the same speed. Much less throttle needed in the F150. But if I need to get up to speed fast the F150 has power in spades. Other then that I feel the same

What 2nd gen access cab Tundra? Are you talking about the double cab? If so, I have both side by side often, the double cab first gen, and the double cab 2nd gen, and the 1st gen double cab is more roomy in the backseat. Adults can handle long trips back there no problem. The legroom of the 2nd gen double cab tundra felt more like my 2nd gen Tacoma.

If gas and garage space weren't an issue, I'd definitely drive a gen 2 tundra over a Taco. Until then, I'll enjoy my Taco

What do you get for mpg in your f150? I am doing my homework on all the full sizes. We bought a travel trailer last year and although the taco handles it, I just don’t want to take it on long trips and fight the whole way. Have test driven a sierra, prob a tundra this weekend, and am now starting to research the f150’s. Never been a ford guy, just one of those family things. But as an engineer if I don’t test all for a full picture I’ll kick myself

If you're one who doesn't mind changing out your truck every 4 or 5 years, the F-150 is a great value. But if you want a truck to last you the next 20 years, you know what to get.

Well with my Tacoma I haven’t really done a thing to it other than standard maintenance over 145k miles, but the tundra seems to be having some growing pains as I lurk on the Tundra forums. My 2nd gen 15 had ten years of kinks worked out

That's why I would hunt for a used Tundra.

Well over the years I've owned a F150, Silverado 1500 and a couple Tacomas, a Nissan. No doubt Toyota Longevity is the best. I drove the New Tundra and at the time the dealers were hosing everyone who wanted one. Now its not too bad. Still I liked the Ford better. It has similiar power but is lighter, better features, can Tow more and just drives better. Can be configured soo many different ways. I get 15mpg which is 90% around town. Same as my Tacomas got with the same driving. With the 36 gal tank I'm filling up about once a month because I stay local. On the F150 forum guys are getting 150k+ on the 3.5 TT as long as quality oil is changed every 5 to 6k not up to 8 or 9k which the mfg says is ok (change your oil at 5k / 1yr if your going to keep it even the Toyotas) The 2019/2020 F150 is the last of the 13th gen :eek:so pretty well worked out. I got a CPO so at least I have the pwr train warranty for another 2.5 years but its been great since I got it a little over a year ago.

I have a 4X4 crew cab 2007 Tacoma and a 2014 F150. The Ford has the 5.0 V8, 4X4 crew cab. Same configuration as my Tacoma. The Tacoma beats the Ford in everyday driving by about 1 mpg. 15-16ish for the Ford in everyday driving vs 16-17ish for the Tacoma. On the road the Ford is 18-19ish and the Tacoma 19-20ish. The Ford gets better fuel mileage (12-13 mpg) when towing my smallish 3500 lb travel trailer.

The newer Fords with the 2.7L EB engine (if properly equipped) will tow more than my 2014 with the V8 and easily beat 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma in fuel mileage. Unless you need to tow 8000 or more Ford's 2.7 is entirely adequate. The catch is finding one properly set up with the right axle ratio, tow package and enough payload. Ford builds most of the trucks with the 2.7 as grocery getters. They tend to build the ones with the 3.5 for towing.

I'm going to be in the market for a new or newer truck in about a year. I'm going to be looking closely at the new 4 cyl turbocharged engine Tacoma will have for 2024. But I'm wide open. I've had several F150's over the years and they have been good to me.

If your set on sticking with the 2.7 then find one with the payload pkg which is unique to the 2.7 family. That package gives you the 9.75 rear end with 3.73 gears. Its required to have the maximum possible towing rating with a 2.7 truck, though it will still lack payload to reach that 10k towing. However with such a truck, 8k trailers are very doable. There's a lot to learn when researching F150's. Take your time because if towing is your game payload is also very important.

If I could do it all over again, I would get a 2014+ Tundra, gas mileage is negligible to me as the taco isnt much better.

Traded a 2009 taco sport 6 mt for my 2016 tundra limited because I wanted a bigger truck to go hunting across country.. much better than my taco even though there was nothing wrong with it just needed something with more room and power. Now that I don’t hunt out west I’m trading the tundra in for a trailhunter.. it has 88,500 miles with no problems at all.. I certainly will miss my tundra

Didn't switch, but recently added a 2021. Flew to Texas and drove it back to Maine. Removed the step tubes (aka salt catchers). Undercarriage is immaculate. Will treat with FF or Woolwax (haven't decided) before the upcoming winter.
