I've done IPO, FR, and herding with my Malinois.
After my schedule changes this month, we'll continue herding, and start tracking, nosework and possibly Barn Hunt.

Zephan, my older male, when he got his HCT (Herding Capability Test)FB_IMG_1508212914155.jpg title.

Beck, my newest addition, first time herding. Not the best pic. LOL

You have some great looking dogs. :)

I don't have a dog currently, but I have been researching working dogs for a while. Eventually I'd like to get a working line GSD. Trying to learn and prepare as much as possible before taking on the commitment. My sister has a GSD and a Mal mix that she does agility training with. They're a couple of stinkers but I enjoy getting to see them. :D

My lab and I compete in retriever field trials and hunt tests. Very proud of our accomplishments as he's my first dog and is 100% amateur trained and handled and has finished every event we’ve entered.

My dog got very sick in the fall of 2017, resulted in some permanent lung damage and over 3 months off from training. We’re just getting back into training now and it’s going pretty well, but taking it slowly. I’m not sure if he’ll be able to handle the big swims of a trial, but I’m just so happy to be out training again. If the field trial distances are too much we'll go back to hunt test and maybe try some HRC Hunt tests.

The first trial of the year is just a month away and I’m planning on entering regardless of how he looks, we were way too close to losing him to not give him one more chance on the line.

Thank you! I'm quite fond of my dogs. :)

I know a few working line GSD breeders, if you need help looking when the time comes!
I highly recommend finding one that does health testing, including DNA genetic testing for DM. One that also works their dogs, so you know the parents have the temperament you're looking for.
I recommend the same breeders for those looking for "just a pet" as well.
A good breeder will evaluate the puppies and place the right temperament with each home, and not every puppy in a working line litter will be working quality, and those ones make great pets, with stable temperaments, from parents with no genetic health problems.

There should be places you could test/practice at. Dock diving is becoming a pretty big sport!
We have a place a couple hours from me, I want to take my dogs to see if they like it.

    That is awesome!!
I love seeing dogs in sports/working in what they were bred to do!

Good luck on your upcoming trial!

Of course! Getting out to do stuff with your dog is so much fun, and rewarding for them!

For me, itsi not about the competition, but rather something fun for my dogs.
The trialing gives us a goal to work towards, but if we dog isn't having fun, what's the point?
I pick the sports my dogs enjoy.

Going to be Doing dock diving and nose work with my female GSD. Hopefully agility with my cattle dog. We are getting another GSD male in the next few months who will likely just do dock diving for sports. Would like to do IPO in the future.

IPO is a lot of fun!
I'm starting with imprinting my dogs for nose work, but I'm not sure how much trialing I'll be able to do. The lottery system they have to be able to enter a trial seems frustrating, and traveling quite a bit isn't feasible with where I work.

We finished our first Qualifying Trial. In December after his surgery we doubted he would ever be able to train or hunt again, and I'm so proud of him and the recovery he's made.

I don't do any official organized sports with my dogs but I do hunt with them. This is Lincoln my Lab. He is my first hunting dog, and so far I have trained him myself. This was his first season and he was only about 8 months old in this picture. I would love to get into field trials or hunt tests of some kind but am just not sure how to get started.

Good looking pup, love the name.

I would recommend trying to find a local retriever training club and see if they offer training days. It looks like you're in Spokane? Based on my quick search there will be a field trial held in Medical Lake hosted by the Spokane Retriever Club May 18-20. I would try and check that out and speak with some club members or competitors and see what's available for you.

The main websites to track retriever trials/tests are entryexpress.com and retrievertraining.net

Thanks! I will check it out. I also have a Vizsla named Jaxon so it would be cool to get into something I could do with both dogs. Here he is with Lincoln.
