I'm interested in getting a dash cam. Never had one but with all these crazy drivers I'm thinking it be a good idea. I seen so many different makes and models. Just curious to what others are using. I here very good things about this one on Amazon and it has great reviews.

I'm just a lowly 2nd gen owner, but don't waste your time wiring up a cheap dash cam.
Spend some money and get something like a blackvue. Built in GPS, wifi, and g sensors to detect a collision. If you get the power magic controller, it even has motion detection and will start recoding if something comes into view or hits you while parked. Also some models has two channels for front and rear cameras. Mine is behind my mirror. Search YouTube for some videos.

420$!!!^^^ wow. I have a Cobra I bought from Costco but my next one will be this one, or the capacitor powered model from the same company, 52$, 2000 mostly good reviews. One thing to know is lots of the negative reviews on sites are from people who can't negotiate the menu to setup the cam and do things like leave motion sensing in which locks files going over speed bumps. The menus can be hard to read, youtube vids can help. I don't like to spend a lot on a dashcam because they get stolen and even the best ones only last so long in the sun, with battery degradation and so on.

Mine does get pretty hot if I park it in the sun and set it to motion detection mode in busy areas. But it hasn't burned up yet :)

I don't know, the reviews on the Blackvue are pretty sketchy.

I have the same cam BlackVue DR650GW 2channel. Over a year and no problems. I would definitely buy it again.

OP, i wouldn't bother with cheap ones. It's not just picture quality that's the difference. Many of them overheat or just don't last very long.

    I have the Falcon Zero

It is small, I have it mounted behind the rear view mirror. Good quality video, comes with a GPS module that you can use if you want. Easy to use and save videos (a huge perk, last ones I had were a pain). Also has a lot of options and its right at $100.

I'm running the 2 channel Thinkware F770 with Cellink B battery. It's pricey, but a great setup for those wanting to use parking mode.

The BlackVue does parking mode also. I hear great things about the Thinkware. Only issue I have is that my factory battery was near dead after 18 months. It's worth it to me

It's crazy how many choices there are. I'll look into all the suggestions. Thanks to all of you for your input.

There are a lot of choices but after reading several reviews and watching numerous YouTube videos on dash cams I decided to go with the Thinkware F770 front and rear dash cams. I have them hard wired in my 2017 Tacoma. I love these dash cams especially the parking mode recording and the verbal notifications of any incidents while your away from your truck and the truck is off, like overnight. I'm happy with this setup.

Also, why doesn't anyone make a little recorder box that plugs inline with the dashcam and records the video output from that? Seems a shame to add another camera for rear view when there's already one there.
