This seems like real bad luck. How did they do your repair? Leave the engine in? How long did the repair take? Did they offer you an extended warranty for your troubles? Hopefully this is your only issue moving forward and you enjoy 300K of trouble free driving.

They took out the steering rack, so no need to remove the engine or trans. It took the dealer 3 days to do, really only 2, but they drove it a lot on the 3rd day and let it set. I already had the warranty, bought it when I purchased the truck. I had a 2016 DCOR that I had problems with, so I knew in advance to get the warranty. I think it'll be okay and if it's not, they can just do it again. I past the point of getting too upset anymore w/issues as long as I have the warranty. When it runs out, I'll get another :)

Okay, thanks for the details. Sounds like you are well versed in the quirks of these trucks including the front timing chain cover leak. You have the right attitude with stuff going sideways. Hopefully no more issues. The pro is a very nice truck! Enjoy.

Thanks. When I bought my 16 new, after a few miles the rear diff blew up....no gear oil in it! I got a free warranty out of that one, then went on to spend too much money on it and have other issues, then when the warranty was up, it was time to trade. All in all, these 3.5s are really good motors. I know we all hate the trans, but they really seem to be pretty bullet proof as well. All these new electronics and turbos are going to have potential issues, verses the old says of just oil and metal.

At 87k now. If I can make it to 230k with only regular maintenance I will be one happy customer.

You are correct. It's just the programing of the Auto Transmission that is geared to emission and fuel savings making it a little unconventional. Otherwise the 6 speed is bullet proof.

Thanks for the update. Any changes? I think you mentioned a small rear main seal weep or leak before you disappeared for a while.

Yeah make sure you change out that damn PVC valve. That's what was causing my rear main seal to have a slight leak. Changed out PVC valve , rear main seal leak gone . Uhhh the ripp performance coils no shit do work. I got over 120k mi out of them . I'm back on my oem coils and I lost 3 to 4 mpgs . I'm doing oil changes every 3k mi , cheap insurance since I'm past 200k mi .

    Nice!

What made you decide on 3k oil changes?

I find that extremely hard to believe.

Toyota went to such lengths with “Atkinson cycle” bullshit and other things to gain like 1-2 MPG over 4.0.

If simply putting in “higher performance” plugs would gain 3-4MPG, I think Toyota would have done that.

Well I was getting 19 to 20 mpgs with the ripp coils and with stock im getting back to what everyone else complains about 15mpg . Remember I have more than just those ripp coils bolted on my motor . I have ran more than 4 tanks of fuel since I put the stock coils back on . Believe what you want but with my experience and 120k mi to back it I'm just sharing the info with the group .

That’s crazy. 3-4 MPG is a huge improvement.

I would gladly install them if that’s the case.

Yeah I do mine every 5k right now. Only at 60k miles so she is barely broken in :)
