I had chrome bumper rust within 3 months of buying it new, and I have the hamster wheel AC fan. Both very minor in my opinion.

    1. Compass/Temperature display no longer functioning...
    2. Downhill Assist and Traction Control System no longer functioning...
    3. Running lights (including the stereo lights) just went out...

Oh no, absolutely no problems at all....... :)

PS If anyone knows how to fix #3 please, don't hesitate to let me know!

73,000 miles and 5 years later, no issues. we'll see how well it held up with me being deployed and my mother driving it.

I think by problems you're asking for design or manufacturing quality defects.

2007 with 31K and no problems. Had the rear spring TSB done but I don't consider that a problem 'cause more people prefer the soft ride with less load carry.

I do have a thunking rear from axle wrap and two-part drive shaft, but don't think there's much I can do about it and it's more an annoyance... not bad enough to elevate to a problem. It eventually goes away anyhow.

I do have other problems, but they are due to Toyota's marketing people and what they think the truck buying public wants... or will put up with for the heinous price they ask for this simple pickup. Pricks.

You got lucky there, my 2005 has had the blower motor and resistor replaced a couple times,i did it my self, and i have a shake in the steering no one can figure out,new tires alignment , balance, only thing i havent changed is the rims, i dont do any off roading so i doubt the rims are bent.

    Temp/Compass replaced by dealer.
Some bubbling on the "high quality" alloy wheels.

Other than the above, the TACO has been spicey and hot.
Looks and runs great, now if I could get better than 16.5 mpg. (mostly local driving)

The compass /temp display is easily fixed, with just a fine tip soldering iron. Do a search on here. as far as back-lights, mine are hit or miss, sometimes on, sometimes off, depending how bumpy the road.

I have / had two 2nd gen. tacos... (also had a 2001, which was perfect for 136,000 miles in 5 years)

    2005 DC:
    a) Soft rear suspension bottomed out with any cargo, dealer wouldn't fix.
    b) Front brakes made squeek noise from 8,000 miles to when pad were replaced, dealer couldn't fix.
    c) ABS braking was terrible on wet or dirt roads (almost crashed more than once), dealer said it was normal.
Truck was still good enough to stay with Toyota, however... 102,000 miles in under 5 years.

2010 DC (now has 26,000 miles on it, 1.5 years old):
    a) leaked tranny fluid when it was new... came from a bad seal on the speedometer cable port for right hand drive models. Fixed.

NOTHING ELSE... perfect... suspension issue of '05 not on this one and the ABS brakes work great on dirt or wet roads... no noise.

I have the 2011 reg cab 4x4 5 spd base model with a 3" lift and 20k miles with absolutely NO problems. I get some driveline vibes but I have a set of shims to put on when I get a chance and that will take care of it, and I only get the noise BC of the lift. I love the truck, and glad I went with with the base reg cab, the more and more I see extra cabs and dbl cabs I like mine even more.... now if they had a reg cab trd sport or off rd that'd be a sick truck!

Just turned 27,000 miles today. No problems here. Just needed to have the reflash to fix the goofy shifting at slow speeds.

EVERYTHING THAT I CAN AFFORD ! ESPECIALLY IF IT MAKES IT RUN BETTER &/or FASTER, STOP QUICKER AS WELL AS LOOKING GOOD @ THE SAME TIME.
So who hasn't had any problems at all with their 2nd gen?

I haven't had any at all - the truck runs perfectly!

I thought I'd start this thread to even out the threads regarding numerous problems with 2nd gens.

    Hey Taco Heads,

I thought I would reply. Long time member in lurk mode most often.
Well, here's my Taco issues: @ 108000 + miles the left front turn signal
and the daytime running light; plus NOW the rear brake light (also of the
same side) running/brake combo have both crapped out. WTF ? lol

Really I do regular maintenance (MC racer, farm-boy & Marine pilot)
BUT SERIOUSLY ! At over 100K my six year old truck has blow two lights !
What other forum/brand/online community member (Me) can come and
honestly report that there's essentially a non existent service issue record.

Lots of great autos and trucks on the market today, however I defy anyone
to find a better value dollar to dollar anywhere in the World than a Tacoma.
Can't wait until my new one comes in !

    OWAF,

    Andy
