I got a receiver shackle setup from harbor freight for like 10-12 bucks. Works perfect, and I use it all the time... and on several trucks. (note I painted it red, didn't come that way lol)

The shackle on the trailer hitch should work, but it is getto looking. I found this stainless steel option, but have seen other non stainless options for a lot less.

But, think about this everyone - for those of us who do not have a "TRD" tow hook up front, how about this. The manual states that the 90 degree "hook loop" on the passanger side where the TRD tow hook normally mounts, should be used for emergency towing. I thought you could just hang a shackle on the "hook loop", as an attachment point up front? What do you think?

The $10 harbor freight one you can paint looks ghetto compared to that fugly stainless steel one that does the exact same thing for 4x the price? Cool story bro.

As for your other point, it should be perfectly fine for recovery.

yeah all of my buddies that have them use the 2" strap, but since mine was free.....and is rated at 12,000 lbs working load i will just stick with it until it breaks :) cant beat a bad ass tow strap

    Look at build!

x2 Cant wait for mien to come in!

OP, not a bad idea but i agree just to use a chackle and the bolt it came with, and it owuld look way cleaner and not so "rigged" Id be scared that your setup would pop loose and leave scars on your or someone elses truck:eek:

That is the original bolt that came with the shackle, i know it looks odd but its actually rated at a higher strength than tha screw in type.
