Why did you choose Prerunner (or 2WD) over 4x4?

I went with 4x2 V6 Prerunner due to living in South Florida and initial cost. I don't need 4wd. I don't go off road other than maybe a dirt or grass parking lot. I tow a waverunner which I have no issues towing with and if I purchase a boat, I still will be able to tow just fine.

Wife and I are considering moving to Colorado and if so, I will buy a 4wd Tacoma.

what's a truck without 4wd? when you're stuck you're stuck... don't need to be an off road gear head to need 4wd... snow, steep incline on a dirt road driveway, pulling a boat out of the harbor... why would anyone not include it as part of your awesome package for why you bought a Taco in the first place.. especially when you spend thousands on wheels, lifts, tires, etc. to make it look like a 4x4??? plus, there's nothing like how you feel when you put yourself in a magical spot on the planet that your station wagon wouldn't get you there.....

I wonder why most trophy trucks(the fastest off-road racing)are 2wd? You don't *NEED* 4wd to leave the pavement.

Pablo, a truck looks like a truck regardless of 4x4 or not. To say "spend thousands on tires and a lift to make it look like a 4x4" is pretty.. Silly.

    If I wanted to make a 4x2 look like a 4x4, I could buy 4x4 mud flaps for $50.

Lift and tires has absolutely zero to do with 4x4 or not 4x4.

well said my friend, just saying im happy to know i have a 4x to allow me access to the elements i may encounter... either way, toyota makes a sharp looking truck (Taco, Tundra or 4 runner) and they are all i see on the road in recent years... good vibes, safe travels!

No doubt. I think occasionally it'd be nice to just go drive in the dirt somewhere and explore, but just didn't make sense to get a second 4x4 when life doesn't dictate needing ONE 4x4.

My next truck will likely be 4x4, but I don't exactly anticipate it being a necessity. I wouldn't mind the flexibility if needed.

Main reason for 2wd: I got a super good deal on this taco, it was a steal. otherwise i would have got a 4x4. which i really still want since i will be moving to the seattle area next year.

I had a 2014 5.0 which i had no problems paying for (financing) but I really wanted the Tacoma DCSB (which i traded the 5.0 in for) because it seems more like an investment and not to mention they are way more reliable compared to most other cars. Also, they look bad ass lifted and its always good to have an open bed truck for doing things here and there, oh and i also have a motorcycle so now i can do trackdays when they come around :)

I bought the truck new in Anchorage, AK so 4x4 was a must for me. I probably would have bought a 4x4 no matter where I was though. Not that I use it a lot but it's really nice to have when I need it. Within the first week of owning the truck it snowed 2.5 feet in a day. If I cared that much about mpg I would have bought a Prius...

    None...yet!
    2015 base model access cab

Probably never going to tow with it (unless I have to move a couch or something like that), didn't have the extra money to spare.

My truck is basically to run around after work and on the weekends, I drive a chevy express for work. I mainly wanted a tacoma so I could purchase sheet goods and other large items for projects around the house.

I love the guys who say "It's not a truck if it's not 4WD" or "I'd never drive a 2WD truck, it's pointless"

They are so lame. I'd never party with them.

I got the 2WD because I am cheap and was BROKE at that time...couldn't afford the extra $5k+ for the same one with 4WD (paid $25000 for a new '12 TRD Sport V6 DCLB). I have owned couple 4Runner 4WD before but did NOT use or need it much. for 3 years and 49600 miles and NOT once I have the need for the 4x4. when it snows too much here in Nebraska I'll take the other vehicle or work from home.
