my guess would be, that you just never know when you may have to pull a "man on fire" and cut some fingers off and then use the lighter to cauterize them...lol

    neglect, mostly.
hahaha strong language! i was referencing the OP's question as to why they don't offer ashtrays by giving examples of my personal observations of people never using them! never said it was an acceptable or right thing to do. . . . however, the hundreds of butts in my yard from a party we had saturday i am not worried about. they deteriorate quickly. . now when people throw them out and they start fires, that im not a big fan of.

The cigarettes that my neighbor smokes and throws into the street here have filters that are made of some kind of stuff that doesn't really deteriorate fast. I usually just pick them up for him. I don't like them in front of my house.

Cigarettes are gross, and even most smokers would agree, but as an ex-smoker, I understand on a day-to-day basis, smoking is a not choice for most smokers. It's a horrible, filthy habit, but also just so happens to be incredibly addictive. Once they have you in their icy death grip, you're hooked for life. Sure, it's possible to quit, but it definitely isn't as easy as just going, "OK, I'm not going to smoke today or ever again" and then just go on your merry way...it's hard and it sucks. I try to cut smokers some slack because I've been there before and I understand.

    Yup, a lifesaver at times.

Um, a LOT of beer varieties don't have twist off, including most imports and "micro-brews".

Not much of a drinker, so I was unawares. Just started partaking again in the quaffing of occasional brew socially, and usually it's a domestic...which, ironically, for you would be an import.

Starting to smoke is a choice. You arent born addicted to smoking. In my opinion smokers are almost as bad as cyclists.

Okay now let's just insult both those who do things that hurt their health and those who do things that benefit their health.

smoking is a terriable habit...I am saddened for those addicted to nicotine.

a good friend is currently dieing from lung cancer from a lifetime of smoking cigarettes.

I cried in his office recently when he delivered the sad news to me. :(

    if you smoke...please get help...

you may only be one person in this world...but you also may mean the world to one person.

Ya... I first started noticing that on rental cars in the late 90s.
Wife's '04 Rav4 has one, but I don't recall my '03 Tundra having one... maybe it did.
My '06 Silverado came with a "muffin" that fit in the cup holder. Company cars, '07 Explorer and '08 4-Runner didn't have anything.

IIRC, the '12 Tacoma has dual power outlets and no lighter, but I might be mistaken.

As far as what to do, when I smoked, even if I had an ash tray, I'd drop my butts into an empty Monster can... the big one with the twist-off top.
Close the lid and contain the stench. Co-workers would get in, see me light up, and comment that they didn't realize I smoked in the truck.

it is sad, i have watched family go from it.

i had a coworker lose someone a while back. "well he was travelin down that road, eggs and potatoes every mornin, steak and beer every night. doctors told him to adjust his diet but he was too stubborn"

me: "well shit it sounds like it was life that killed him, sounds like he got everything he wanted out of it too."

you cant judge people on how they pass, it will just create resentment. whether they smoked ciggarretes or snorted lines or ate what tasted good, everyone goes. i only hope they went doing what satisfied them. there unfortunately is no control over another's habits (and trust me i've tried), there is no say in it at all. i hope this isn't taken the wrong way
