I am looking for a renter for one of my investment properties. I met two people last night, both had Tacomas. One had a 2016 Sport, and one had a 2015 Pro.

I have seen lots of Tacomas in the rental units I look around. I am not talking about 1997 Tacoma.

Just lots of lifted tacoma with expensive wheels etc. Are more Tacoma owners spending more money on their Trucks than their houses?

Is this a west coast only phenomenon ?

Not sure if it's just a WC thing, but in general I see a lot of people these days who rent and have a nice vehicle.

One of my friends lives at home and is about 44-45 yrs old..he has a Jaguar F Type SUV and before that had a Range Rover.

Well usually Tacoma owners are well off, makes good life decisions. We are not talking about certain part of the demographic that I see in a leased $599 Maserati living in an apartment.

Just was curious as to the current Tacoma trend

Maybe they live in apartments because CA is ridiculously expensive. Not sure owning a 94 Honda Civic is going to give them the income to own here.

I make decent money but I still can't afford to buy a home in Brooklyn, NY in a neighborhood I'd actually want to grow old in. So for now we've got a 14 Tacoma, 13 Subaru Impreza, 2 cats, and an apartment in a changing but still rough area. I've driven all over the country in my Tacoma and I've seen our trucks everywhere from multi million dollar homes in New York and California, to desert huts in New Mexico, split level condos in Cleveland, and duplexes of Little Rock, AR.

Meh, I have a 2015 Tacoma and rent. Rent is cheaper than buying right now. Guy bought my condo for 99k when I moved in. I pay cheap rent. Now it's over 200k. Screw paying that much for a 1 bedroom.

Plus if things break the owner pays for it. Not my truck money.

I don't assume. I was previous Toyota employee in Legal for a long time. Tacoma owners per market research had very high income and was a great demographic.

People are almost always buying depreciating assets rather than appreciating assets. It's the "live the moment" mentality, and screw the future.

Why pay on a home that you could eventually own, when instead you can buy a new shiny expensive Tacoma to show off to your friends, neighbors, and family?

I would much rather spend money on a house than a vehicle. But being in college and living in San Diego a house isn't happening soon.

That argument works if you are talking about a F Type Coupe or a Benz G waggen. I don't know anyone who is impressed by a new Tacoma.

The average Tacoma buyer is someone who saves a lot of money, lives well below their means, is conservative in those matters.

Don't know what that makes me, then, since I own my home and land free and clear here in Kentucky, and have 11 more payments to make on my Taco.
Of course, my land and home are nothing special, just 5 acres in the woods on a river and a singlewide with an addition.

Makes you the typical Tacoma owner. House/Land paid for, and doing it the right way

Shit I don't even live in an apartment, I rent a room, garage space and own bathroom in my roommate's 3 bedroom house at a whooping $1000 a month, though it is NJ. For me I need the garage space for my bike and tools, I'm single so don't need a house to myself and military so orders could come anytime. I think more importantly you should look at what age group type of person typically drive tacomas. Around here its old guys (retiree age) or young guys which would make sense why they live in an apartment. Most established middle age men have a house, wife, kids, etc. and thus opt for the pampered full size. Just my 2 cents. Don't think its really income based so much, as my tacoma cost as much as my nicely loaded z71 silverado back in 2014. Just demographic. Just look at the commercials toyota runs, Tacoma is clearly aimed towards younger buyers, not that many can drop $35k on a truck.

You don't own it free and clear if you pay taxes on it.
Maybe KY doesn't have property tax.

Tacomas are built for the "never-ending weekend" so we can't be tied down to a house when the truck calls us to have fun!!

Seriously though, being 30 with no wife or kids, my house is just an investment. From a having fun stand point I'd rather be in an apartment and where I can just take off for a week a time with no worries.

As far as California is concerned, we live in a state where pricing is hyperinflated (yes that includes property values as well) so no one wants to buy because most who do so will end up buried in said home before they could even finish paying that mortgage.

The same could be said about students who hqve a loans bill, they say fuck it and just drop payments on it entirely.
