I grew up in the country.
You not the chosen assigner of who is, or where people grew up... or didn't grow up yet.
What I do with my guns is no concern of yours, you merely bragging about them in a diesel thread like that, wreaks of immaturity and childishness. I still like diesels as I said in previous posts.

    Wishful thinking!!!

As for working on your own Tacoma engine after that happens, not a chance. My wife has a Jetta, and it's all but impossible to wrench on. Takes 30 minutes just to replace the damn air filter, and a oil change is a major pain in the arse!

The Germans make good engines, but with the good, comes the bad, and over engineering is their downfall...

Yea, diesel/electric goes back a long ways. A lot of modern and even not so modern non nuke subs run on D/E, sometimes nukes ran on nuke/electric.
Lately they have been getting better yet with steerable motors at the screws no rudder needed. No idea if it scales down well though.

my first two vehicles were Dodge Cummins diesels, one 02 24 valve 4wd bone stock 5 speed, and a 97 12 valve 2wd reg cab auto that was tuned up, and tore the trans out, which is why i'm getting a Taco now...but anyway, the reason to love a diesel is the torque of a stock or slightly modified one, and then there's the fact that a 03 up Duramax or Cummins can be made to make over 1000 HP at the track and run 11's all day, be tuned down, and drive home getting around 18 mpg...show me any gas burner truck or car able to do that

I understand. Due to the complexity, and cost, it will probably remain an elite racing class technology.

I don't care for hybrids...but if one comes out that's popular and tons of people get them and say nobody has gas engines anymore, it will bring the price of fuel back down thus making it not worth getting a hybrid for me/not expensive to drive a gas powered vehicle...though I'll never drive something that isn't an internal combustion engine for as long as I can....electric vehicles are retarded as the making and disposing of batteries is definitely awful for the environment...not that I care about the environment I think it's all BS. to each their own

EDIT: Another huge problem is our huge infrastructure is all based on gas/diesel...it will cost an insane amount to add and/or change all of our fueling stations

That doesn't seem particularly efficient. Why add all the weight and all the added complexity when you could just have the original turbine turn the screws instead of putting all of the energy through a few steps probably losing a % of the original power.

    Yeah you didn't know that?

Bet you also didn't know that as demand for gasoline goes down, so does the price. Econ 101 here OZ

Military designs most often address other concerns that are far more important than efficiency. Effectiveness is the standard, with efficiency a distant second consideration.

On a ship scale of things its very cheap and efficient. If you already have turbines, say 4, 2 for powering the electrical needs, 2 for propulsion. Having 4 of the same type becomes easier, you remove the shaft, clutch and reduction gears. Newer electric motors are quite efficient too and are now in the water for cooling... 2 less cooling systems in the ship. It wouldn't surprise me if the needed on watch crew count was 10-20% less too with automation.

So you think Hybrids don't have gas engines?

And you think that gas prices will drop because? They haven't while gas hybrids continue to gain market share.

And you think that hybrid batteries are different than your regular car battery that are right there at the top of the recycled items on a car. Of course ALL hybrid batteries are recycled, not awful to the environment at all. Why do you think that?

Change our infrastructure?, I'm sure every gas station has gas that hybrids use.

    3.4 Tacoma= 18 mpg (I used to get 20.5 on the factory 28" tires:()
Prius C on the right gets mileage ranging from 48 to over 55 mpg depending on how and where you are driving it.

    but they're not...

point is... (if you were comparing like vehicles and not a truck and a car) sure you may get an extra 30 mpg but what's the new vehicle cost and how many miles until you recover that extra cost?

Now if you're after a new vehicle that comparison obviously isn't as relevant.

If he's comparing the MPG between those two vehicles though, which I believe is what he's doing... you ought to factor in cost of ownership vs solely fuel

Truck was handed down to me so it was free:)

But a new Prius C can be bought for around $20,000 and up to maybe $24,500 for the highest end model.
Hell if I know about the other stuff.
