So , does that VW model generate / store electric power when the diesel motor is operating , or no ?

Saw this "Global Pickup Shootout" article where they did some testing of the Australian models. The Hilux, Ranger, VW Amarok, Holden Colorado (GM). Decent info, short on tech specs:

    http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2012/08/global-pickup-shootout-the-players.html

I see they tested the Hilux with the 4.0, got 17.4 MPG vs 24.5 for the 3.0 they tested some other time.

Looks like the Ranger has the best diesel, but sacrifices some MPG for the power. Amarok lacks a low-range xfer case (maybe in automatic only).

If VW sells the Amarok in Canada or the USA, it will come with a low-range.

They know truck buyers, even though its a VW, still expect low range.

I will be standing in line if/when the Amarok comes to Canada.

It is also great news to hear that Nissan will be offering a fullsize Titan Diesel and a Frontier Diesel by 2015/2016. I am sure that this, mixed in with the Colorado diesel wil lpush Toyota and VW to bring one to North America.

Do you have a source on that frontier claim? I have seen the reports on the Titan but not heard any confirmation on the frontier.

A group of drivers from cleanmpg.com just completed a 46 hour cross country drive with 3 new Audi TDIs. Started in LA, finished in NYC.

    Final results.

Q5 38.623mpg 24.6% over EPA highway, average speed of 61.9mph
A7 42.653mpg 12.25% over EPA highway, average speed of 62.175mph
A6 43.561mpg 14.63% over EPA highway, average speed of 62.44mph

Edit: Should add that each vehicle had a full 4 people on board and road trip supplies to allow driving in shifts, so these already heavy vehicles were fully loaded down too.

Same thing goes for the Jeep Ecodiesel and RAM 1500 3.0 ecodiesel.
240hp/420torque and 30+ mpg... Yes please

27mpg highway for the EPA ratings, and people are seeing 32-35mpg highway.
Definitely great numbers for a 5000+ pound truck.

Unlike gas engines that always get lower than the EPA ratings (my Taco gets 15-16 mpg on winter gas)

I can't wait until Toyota brings a diesel to the states. I'm not that thrilled about the Cummins in the Tundra but its a start and I'm sure they will put their own in a few years down the road.

I like diesels since I can actually fit my huge boner in the exhaust pipe.
