I know that Toyota put WS fluid in your transmission when they built it. And, I know that you are too focused on getting everyone to believe your baseless claims to actually listen to facts or sound advice. I'm starting to feel sorry for you, but stupid is as stupid says.

Short answer. Drain and Fill would achieve the same results. So, they sell the Drain and Fill.

    Long answer.

Checking the fluid is a bit time consuming. The temperature needs to be at a certain temp. Then you check for a small trickle. The procedure can take about 30 mins or longer.

Basically there is no dip stick.
There’s no easy way to inspect the fluid condition easily.

To make it worth their time. The dealer/shop will need to charge you.
And most don’t want to charge and/or take the time to “check” the fluid.

Checking the fluid pretty much amounts to doing a drain and fill minus exchanging the fluid.

I should clarify, on the Tacoma trucks with the A750 Transmission sold in the U.S.A. I’ve not seen one.

Correct. The 4spd auto (A340) in the 2.7L Tacoma did have a dipstick. Only those of us with the 1GR-FE/A750 combo got shafted with no trans dipstick.

Just bought a '13 V6 Tacoma with 58k miles a few months ago. I tow a small Gheenoe boat, probably ~350lbs max with boat and trailer. After reading this thread and seeing a lot of comments about towing, would this lightweight towing qualify to warrant a Tranny flush?

I would do a drain and fill. But not because of towing.

    Why? Read about it here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...e-get-it-out-of-your-transmission-now.331521/

FWIW, I did my first Drain and Fill at 100k. I didn’t know any better, and was told by the dealer I was good until 100k. That was WRONG. (Maybe not “wrong”. But it was not the best advice)

And also, Yes. I do still have WS fluid in my transmission. (140k now)

Why did I continue to use WS?

Because I didn’t feel comfortable doing a flush at 100k. I am choosing to do drain and fills. Doing this only gets maybe 1/3 of the fluid out each time.

(My trailer alone weighs more than 350 lbs).

Aight aight. 2007 v6 auto at 156,000. Didn't touch the fluid when I bought it at 126,000. Don't know the history beside transfer case and differential fluid changed at 88k according to service history on Toyota.com. I dont tow or offroad. 15 minute commute and it carries my surfboard to the beach.

I guess I am looking at a drain and fill or full flush. Don't think I have the nuts to leave it and ride or die. Leaning toward a drain and fill as most everyone here seems to think fucking around with a high mileage tranny doing flushes and shit can fuck my shit up.

    Peace and love

Abner420, x2 on the drain & fill. Even with such a minor freshen up of the fluid, you will very likely feel an improvement in shift quality right away.

When I retired 4 years ago I bought a 2012 had 60,000 miles on it. In the summer I tow a couple personal watercraft & in the winter a SXS. Both are just under 2000 lbs so the V6 is perfect. Not knowing the history of the truck, and not being familiar with it I took it to the dealer to change the tran fluid. Living in Hell Az, where last year we had 40 straight days of at least 110* it was peace of mind to get it done.

Can anyone find a thread where Gearcruncher gives his advice on the subject. I would be highly likely to follow it.

He does in point 6 at the link I posted above.

(6)Why does Aisn Warner who make the transmission say that the transmission fluid needs to be changed every 30 k and 25 k under severe use yet Toyota says the fluid is good for 100k ?

    1. Never ever flush.
    2. Drain is ok for trucks that tow.
    3. Worried about it? put in a real trans cooler.
    4. Use WS rated, toy or amsoil. Nothing else
