Supercharger will give you more HP, gearing will give you more mechanical advantage of the power you already have.

You shouldn’t fly through canyon roads or you will miss things like this (pic taken on a canyon road, near Estes Park I think):

You guys are all wrong with comments like " maybe it has a supercharger" or " pop the hood". It really is a simple explanation for the this. I say close the hood and the answer is under your nose. Your first tacoma had the hp producing......skeeewp.

Don’t sweat the posts that skip your answers. Supercharger crams more air/gas into the engine. Regear changes the gear ratio where the drive shaft meets the axles. Rpms will be higher in every gear and you shift sooner. Basically gives the engine better leverage to turn the wheels. For a 4x4 there are 2 differentials(front and rear) so 2 places to regear. A map is the computer generated response to your right foot. There’s no direct linkage anymore so the engine control unit(ecu) measures a bunch of stuff along with your pedal pressure and opens the throttle and feeds gas to the injectors. Change the map and you can change the response.

Pedal commander does nothing more than simulate the driver pushing down on the pedal more than they are. It DOES NOT change the throttle pedal to throttle body mapping.

It may not change the map code but it does affect throttle response. A tune would be better since that actually rewrites the map code.

I had the same problem going from my 06 to a 2012

It’s just the factory tuning, the throttle pedal mapping is way less sensitive in the 2012-15 trucks. Silly Toyota trying to increase mpg by making the truck drive like garbage (and consequently get less mpg when owners thrash the truck to make it move)

Easiest way to fix it is with an AFE sprint booster or pedal commander. Afe is a much better brand, some of the PC’s turn out to be junk and cause problems, so really just get a sprint booster. Lol.

Unless your idea of driving Is going like a bat out of hell all the time, you should have no problem with a stock 2014. Plenty of power for passing or climbing hills.
If your truck is a dog something is screwed on it.

I went to the AFE website and saw that they also sell the following tuner:

    https://afepower.com/afe-power-77-36001-scorcher-pro-performance-programmer

Wouldn’t this be, although more expensive, be more of a solution as it actually retunes the vehicle and directly addresses the problem, instead just affecting pedal function as the sprint booster and pedal commander offer?

This will be one of the easier HP and TQ increasing mods.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/page-366

Also the overall cheapest of all of the variable choices.

The throttle will be remapped for better response. Shift patterns can be improved. Operational efficiencies of the engine will be improved.

The tune should be the first thing done.

So y'all think my truck is fast? Lol. Anyone want to meet at a track and find out the truth?

To answer your question, I believe your first truck had a different factory tune. Also, that louder exhaust will make you think the truck is faster than it really is (butt dyno).

When my stock exhaust rusted out, I switched to a magnaflow exhaust which was cheaper than a stock replacement. Magnaflow made it sound louder and feel faster. But it's not any faster, lol.

Does anyone know if the OVTune will solve OP's problem?

I wouldn’t trust reflashing my truck with anything but OVTune. Those generic tuners are garbage 99% of the time haha.
