I'm going to assume you don't work with user interfaces? A TV remote should have a pause button, and an un-pause button? A mute and un-mute button?

Drum brakes of equal diameter to discs do have more stopping power they are just more prone to over heating and fading.

Exactly. That's why they are so uncommon trucks.

My drag racing car had a push button start, My Tacoma has a push button start, My generator has a push button start. I mean, what's the issue?

it is true though. there is more pad-to-rotor contact than there is in any disc/pad setup.

Vehicles have a seperate acceleration and brake pedal. One pedal could achieve the same reults.

If I recall correctly that's how some hand control conversations work. The same lever operates the gas and brake.

And drums also don't work as well as discs when submerged in water. Four wheel drum vehicles driven on flooded streets will slow down to a stop very poorly. It feels like a total loss of braking, even at really low speeds.
My experience with old cars from the 1960's driven in the 1970's....on flooded streets.

Salesperson asking: "Do you want smart key option with no charge?"
My answer usually: "Smart key is smarter than me, that's the problem. Please, give me regular key..."
Joke. Honestly, I don't really trust reliability of this things.

Disc brakes can be may larger. My first generator was push start, broke down, my second generator is pull cord start, more work. Push start is better and easier. The wife likes push starts. I live off the grid ,use my generator twice a week to do laundry. 104 times a year.

Days of carburetor, idling vs turn off motor . Carb ate more gas to restart. So idling was consider better then.
Fuel injections, cheaper to turn off motor, because cheaper to restart. Then remaining in idle.

It is more convenient to push the Start button on and off then keep turning the keys.

As far as thief’s stealing cars, if the keys are in the ignition, no different then a push button, happens to often.
People were stealing cars, way before any push button start buttons. Thief’s can take the keys away from you too.
To change or not to change? Habits are hard to change. Humans are creatures of habits.

Wait till you start driving a electric car…Tesla owners have a hard time getting back to driving normal cars. The changes how a electric operates is a new world. Just like our push button start button. It is a change in habit.

Interesting how one thinks a key is more reliable, then a push button? Both duties is to turn on and off?
It is just a switch , both connects to the same systems. Just using different methods.

keys you need to turn to start, the other you just push to start.

in the early years people would have so many keys on the key chains, the weights actually damages the ignition.

My mechanic had kinda of this problem. The old man keys chains were heavy and long, tells the mechanic my jeeps keeps turning off and on while driving. “Jimmy the mechanic could not find the problem. Jimmy drove the old jeep ,Nothing till he took a big turn, the keys would swing hit the wiring under neat, creating a short. Turn the motor off ,as the keys swing back , no problems. Jimmy only laughing to finally found the problem. The solution was a easy fix.

Want a smart key? And said NO? I would have ask the salesperson the plus and minus of how a smart key works first. Demonstrate the functions. The computers systems are all ready built in.

Not related to above. We needed to manually lock our cars door every single time, sometimes every door too. In the old days of before.
Today we cannot live with out a key fob to lock all the doors one time, as we walk away, beep, beep!

Yes! There is a push buttons on the key fobs, to lock your doors. No one wants to manually lock there doors any more ( some call for as a complete control)

With the key fobs to lock the doors, rare to see a person using keys to lock the car doors.

My car has 2 keys, 1 for the doors and 1 for the ignition, no big deal at all.

I don’t like having to press the brake to start the truck.
