Sounds normal to me. My stock tire size on the door is 225 with 15 inch rims. Running 265 75 16 now and I just fuel it up when needed. I guestimated that I get about 15mpg in winter. Worst mileage because of winter grade and warming it up. Sometimes it seems I get close to 20mpg in the summer. But, larger tires, odometer being off, speed off by 5 mph I don't really know. I do know I put less $ in it for gas than my old Jeep.grand Cherokee. I only watch it now to make sure the mileage doesn't change. Usually means something is wrong.

Winter gas burns quicker. These MPG threads seem to be more prevalent in the colder months. Just food for thought

This as well as lower tire pressure, colder and thicker oil, etc.

The Toyota 5VZ-FE 3.4 is known for a lot of things. It is known for its reliability, durability, longevity and it has decent power for the size of engine it is. Fuel consumption is not its strong point.

OP stopped transporting fat chicks in his truck.

MPG magically increased. No need to post further.

    Hey Everybody,

How is it going on this cold Tuesday morning. If you look at the stock brochure on the first generation Tacoma the 3.4 with the5-speed is supposed to get between 16 and 19 miles per gallon, and the automatic gets between 17 and 20 miles per gallon. The Environmental Protection Agency confirms these numbers, and they run extensive tests on the rigs they test. These fuel consumption numbers are for rigs with the 31 inch stock tires. Spyder, if you are getting close to these numbers with a modified rig, you are ahead of the game especially if you have not re-geared your rig.

    Good Luck,
    Paul

Keep in mind if you go from the OEM tire, a 25-30lb passenger 265/70R16 (for the 4x4), to almost any All-Terrain LT rated tire, you're adding >15lbs PER WHEEL in rotational weight. That pretty dropped my mileage by 2mpg. 2" OME lift didn't change a thing.

My V6 gets around 16-17 mpg in the city, and around 18-20 on the highway.

Gasoline usage is proportional to the weight of the one's right foot.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I get 17 combined, with heavy ass 10 ply mud terrains, stock steelie wheels that are heavy as fuck as is. Same configuration but no lift/flowmaster and double cab so probably a tad heavier than you. I think upgrading to alloy wheels off a 2nd gen and going to a 6 ply would help me a lot. Still give a durable tire, but lighter weight and less resistance. Rotating the tires on my truck, I'd guess each tire/wheel combo weighs about a 100# a piece. Maybe not but it sure feels like it trying to lift those bastards!
