I would like to own another Jeep again but it would be an early 2000 TJ with a LS3 built for hardcore rock crawling and still be streetable

My wife (before we were married) owned a '79 CJ-5 Renegade (304 V-8) and loved it... it was a rare trouble-free Jeep. She owned it for over 20 years, raised three kids in it, too. Now owns a Toyota. I owned a Jeep in 1975 for two years... everything broke on it (it was bought new, a Cherokee Chief, 401 V-8). Never again... and it is sad because I love the Jeep brand with all its history... but I am a Toyota lifer, you just can't buy a better made, reliable, 4x4!

The 4 door wrangler was uncomfortable and I needed an actual bed. Off-road performance is irrelevant for >95% of both Toyota AND Jeep owners anyway.

My son has a 2019 Rubicon that he bought new, after having a 2017 Sahara that he also bought new. Both were the 4 door. When he was in the market the first time, I insisted he get a 6 speed manual and his Rubicon is as well which is why he built and ordered it in the configuration he wanted. It cruises down the highway way better than I expected it to and it's really capable off road.
He's only got about 20,000 miles on it now but it's been trouble free. From what I've read, the new 3.6 Pentastar is a better engine than the 3.8 POS of the last generation.
Jeep was on my short list when I got my Taco, but after having my Taco for five years now, I wouldn't buy a Jeep as my primary vehicle. I drive his Jeep whenever he comes to visit and I have to admit, I really like it, just not as much as my Tacoma.

100%, now all they do is make underhanded comments at the bronco, bc they know it will be much better than a jeep. Ford already excluded them from the last release event, subaru won't give them anything, might as well call them that fast lane jeep. I don't mind a channel being biased, just don't be biased and claim to be neutral

Jeeps are good at what they do, which is offroad. But dd, no way, and I'll never pay the premium they demand.

I agree with the Toyota statement! I've had a lot of jeeps (CJs)...I had 2 Grand Wagoneers, a 1983 that I had a few years and sold it and got a 1989...they were newer vehicles so I had very little trouble and I loved the way they looked and drove. I should have kept and maintained the 1989. I had trouble with most of the CJs, but it was small things and I always figured it was because I abused the heck out of them. I still may buy a restored Wagoneer at some point - been eyeing the Wagonmaster and have spoken with him on several occasions..I like his stuff.

    Tacoma over Jeep....

    1) Solid ax on the front is a negative from an articulation standpoint.
    2) The steering gets weird on a lift.
    3) Payload
    4) Towing capacity
    5) Jeep Hood wind noise and the latches... cause the hoods flip up on the highway...
    6) Reliability
