Sorry gentlemen, you are NUTS! And this is nothing personal... AMC/Dodge/Chrysler have ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS been notoriously horrible for reliability, and I mean bottom of the barrel bad. Read consumer reports. The numbers speak, guys.

Not true. There were severasl years in the 90s when Dodge was making some very reliable and good looking vehicles. And during the late 60s through the early 70s the MOPARs were as reliable as anything else. They were just a pain in the ass to work on compared to Fords and Chevys. Nowdays they are shit for quality and reliability.

Solid axle Jeeps are pathetic daily drivers too. They are specialty vehicles that people mistake for status vehicles but they excel in very difficult terrain where IFS vehicles struggle. Those who say Jeeps are shit compared to Tacos in all respects and for all applications are spewing pure distilled ignorance.

Agreed. I think the 03-04 TJs were the pinnacle IMHO. Although I'm getting used to the JK (07-current model), it'll just never be a TJ.

Hey cool man - rub it in!

I have never heard of this transmission-catching-on-fire thing, and I have owned a few JKs. Are you part of a class-action suit, or was there a recall? If it was a common problem, there would be a recall.

Ridiculous, cover-all statement. I have never had a major issue with any of my 30+ Jeeps, and the 4.0L motor is easily the most reliable motor I have ever driven, even with all the abuse I have put them through. We all agree that my Taco is more reliable than a Jeep, but we're not calling all AMC/Dodge/Chrysler trash - that would be silly.

Your use of the words 'ovah' and 'outtah', combined with your random pressing of keys at the end of sentences, make me lean towards not trusting you with a sawzall around my truck.

The new 3.6 is very reliable. The 3.8, or 3.hate as they call it, drove the reliability ratings down. Now people generalize jeeps in general as junk and unreliable.

I'm glad you brought that up - do you have personal experience with the 3.6?

If I was to go into 'JK land', I'd likely go for around the 2007 model, but as you mentioned, I have heard some terrible things about the 3.8 - leaking oil regularly and a host of other problems.

It was a toss-up for me when I was looking to buy. I've always loved Jeeps, but I needed a reliable daily driver so I went with the Tacoma, and I'm still super pleased with it. My only gripe is road noise, but I doubt it would have been any better with the Jeep. Even though you still can't take the doors off, for my money I'd buy a nice 4x4 4runnner and jazz that shit up. Also, when's Ford going to make an effin Bronco or something. Man I loved those old Brancos and K-5 Blazers.

For the record, you can take the doors off. There's a few guys in this thread that posted pictures.

I know it's possible, but screw that lol. I get a shit-storm of sand particles in ever nook and cranny every time I hit the beach with the windows down.

Haha fair enough. In all fairness, I for sure wouldn't take the doors off at least until I pay it off lol. I'd be way too scared.

If you missed it, the likely course of action that I'm going to take it getting an older Wrangler to get my 'Jeep fix' and stick with my '15 Taco.

    :)

Good call, I hope to do the same myself in the future. Nothing wrong with liking both! Apparently, according to this thread, I need to (A) Acquire a girlfriend or wife (B) Convince her to buy a Wrangler lol.

That's right! I keep hearing 'oh we got my wife a JK' - man you guys have some keepers for wives! My wife loves her VW, and I don't think I could peel her away from it haha. Maybe someday I'll trick her into wanting a truck or a Jeep...

I had a wrangler soft top in the 90's. I learned to off-road and get myself out of of a lot of difficult situations in it. I loved that jeep and put it to the test a lot times without it ever failing me and I can remember that I got within $3k of purchase price when I traded it in.

I would Never have one as a DD ever again, but as a second toy, sure I'd buy another. My taco is much more comfortable and I know is a much better built vehicle, but a good mod'ed jeep looks awesome and they're very capable on the trails.

I had a hard top and the road noise was worse than the Tacoma. The Tacomas is bad but not jeep bad haha.

I feel like anyone who cares about road noise when buying a Jeep is looking into the wrong vehicle.
