So my first car was a Jeep and have owned 3 Jeeps in all, they've all been in the Cherokee family though. 90 Cherokee XJ, 91 Cherokee XJ, and 04 Grand Cherokee WJ. Sold the 90 and the traded the 04 for my Taco, now all I have is the 91 and it has a full cage, 5.5" lift and King shocks, and several other goodies. Definitely love my Jeeps, but never owned a Wrangler because people always wanted too much for them and the Cherokees went everywhere I needed them to. Granted, there were some reliability issues here and there (some caused by my teenage attraction to mud), but they are easy to work on and aftermarket support is amazing. Just my 2 cents.

This is really cool and it looks great, but I bet it takes a lot longer than 30 seconds to remove doors. ;)

Same. Bought a 2001 TJ after college and fell in love. Never gave me a problem in the six years I owned it and I beat it far worse than it deserved.

I agree with Goosed. My lifted Tacoma cannot go places that I used to take my stock TJ.

I guess it depends on your definition of "off-roading," but Wranglers can do far more than a Tacoma or most other truck/SUVs due to their size alone, not to mention the solid axels, suspension articulation, lower range transfer case (Rubicon), beefier axels (Rubicon), and fully locked factory option (Rubicon).

It's an apples to oranges comparison though. The Tacoma has many other qualities that beat the Wrangler like on-road handling, hauling, long term reliability, not catching crosswinds like a parachute, and plenty of ticking engine noises.

The jeep is a 95 w/ 20k on it. Picked it up and modded the hell out of it.

I had a 2005 TJ Unlimited (aka LJ) Rubicon and I couldn't handle the stress of ownership. It was just too prone to breaking down. I think to own a Jeep that is anything but brand new you need to be really excited about working on it more than you drive it.

Haha I got that! But why? Literally, I have never had a 'major' failure in all of my 32 Jeeps. To be fair, though, most of them I bought JUST to work on, so I'd take care of any 'problems' before I hit the road w/ them. Maybe I'm due for a failure? (knocks on wood)

Okay, if I keep my Taco, this is happening. But maybe once I pay it off - I'd feel super nervous about body twist. Bad experience with an old Cherokee that I took the doors off of once.

I have had a bunch of Cherokees, and I love them. However, I'm looking at a Wrangler for that open-top, doors-off feel. I think a Cherokee would likely be filling the same 'vehicle need' that my Taco is now. I'm sure I'll buy another Cherokee some day. Oh, and for those that don't know, we're talking about 2001 and before Cherokees. NOT the ones Jeep produces now - those are NOT Cherokees.

Soooo.. ya still got it? Wanna sell? :-D

    @ACKtrd30 hey man, you sellin'?

    Eh, eh?

Really, though - I have been thinking of getting a good rust-free body and dropping a Jasper / ATK re-manufactured 4.0L in there for $2k and calling it a brand new-ish Jeep lol. I love the YJs!

I considered an fj, wrangler, and Tacoma. I bought the Tacoma. I liked it least of all 3 new off the lot because of its lackluster oem configuration, but knew I could turn it into what I wanted for a few grand more. I did. Wheels, tires, suspension, cap, and racks. It suited my lifestyle better for kayaking, fishing, camping and hunting. There's something about riding around with dead carcasses in the same air space with you that is just plain nasty! So you just have to ask yourself what you're really after. Quick story...family member bought a Sahara limited new and recently took a fairy extensive 30 hour round trip drive across the states. She spent a lot of time @ the chiropractor after that trip and blames the wranglers horrible ride. So for what it's worth. My Tacoma rides like its on cotton balls, even before the suspension upgrade.

Sold it already. I got the same feeling of relief I imagine a person would get when they sell a good sized boat.

One of my interns this summer had a very built-up '07 Wrangler. 37s, front and rear lockers, snorkel, etc. His father built it and gave it to him as a 16th birthday present. It's his daily driver.

I bet it's fantastic off road, but has got to be brutal to drive for more than a few miles at a time on pavement.

I went with the Tacoma because if I'm going to have just one vehicle it's tough to come up with something more practical.

Hahaha. I actually had an '05 LJ last year, but let it go. I have car ADD bad. For that reason, I'm thinking that an old cheap Jeep may be my smartest option.

Right you are, sir. The Jeep is a niche vehicle, and man do our Tacos do everything. A Jeep may be more nimble and off-road-focused, but my Taco handles great driving down the road, unlike the Wrangler.

Look at them side by side... I think my tacoma looks a bit better then the wrangler. But I do like both a lot.

I could never pick based on looks - they're both gorgeous.

They're re-designing the Wrangler in 2018, and I'm terrified. I'm just now getting used to the JK (2007-present model).

YES! @916TacoTruck -- Do you have body warp from those? Do you have issues putting your normal doors back on if you have had them off for a week or so, or do you not keep them off that long?

Also, do you have any pictures / write-up on what you had to do to remove them?

Did you do plug-n-play wiring harness to allow your doors to 'plug back in' and have the windows and locks work?

Apologize for the overload, but pumped to talk to someone who has them...

I've wheel a few times with these doors with no issues. I had the doors on pretty much the whole summer. The stock doors go back on with no figment issues. It's just heavy. Gonna make hinges that are quick disconnect so it's easier not messing with bolting it back on. The door plugs disconnect at the rubber, and tuck into the truck.

That's great to hear man. I also have an MGM DCSB, so awesome to see on a similar truck.

Are those from 4X Innovations? These: http://www.4xinnovations.com/Tube-Doors_c_30.html

    They look like them.
