A 4-door Wrangler was on my list also before I got the Tacoma. To echo what several other people have said in this thread, the reason I went for the Taco was:

    - Not a Chrysler product (read: reliability, longevity)
    - Towing/hauling capability
    - Fuel mileage (not much better, but still better)
    - I live in Seattle and there is shitty weather 9 months of the year, it just wasn't worth the hassle of the Jeep for me. I can still take the doors off the Tacoma if I really want to...

Yeah, fuel mileage isn't what I'm going for. But from an objective standpoint, the '15 Wrangler gets better fuel economy than the '15 Tacoma, both bone stock.

However, I'm kind of disregarding that. Like I said, fuel mileage isn't that big of a deal - we're talking about two vehicles that both get pretty terrible fuel economy.

Honestly if you want it for a second vehicle I say go for it, they are noisy they do ride like shit but it's a jeep, it will go anywhere and it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it, also off road they are amazing, so are the Tacomas however if you want it for strictly off roading get a side by side, nothing will beat those off road and they are a blast, in the end it's your decision and if you had jeeps you know what to expect

What kind of mileage do you get with your Jeep?

I've contemplated this before myself. The conclusion I came to was to keep the Tacoma and search for the TJ Unlimited (LJ). I miss having the TJ I owned before the Tacoma. It was a blast to drive and there is nothing like having the top and doors off.

However, almost every weekend I am using the bed of the Tacoma and I don't want to hook up a trailer every time. The new JK Unlimited is nice though. Good luck!!!

Got a TJ Sport in 2003, sold it in 2004. It looked cool, but that's it. Never again.

    Holy freaking huge!

... PM me if serious. I'm deployed, though, so it wouldn't be for a few months.

Yeah.... But to get this you need to drive it real slow and steady, my 2015 can do that too if i take it real mellow. I just did a 1600miles road trip at avg of 70mph and got around 15mpg, was really windy most of the way, but my taco woulda been no better![/QUOTE]

Same. I consistently got 18+ on my 2001 5 speed TJ in the city (32" tires). My Tacoma (32" tires) averages 15 in the city and is lucky to get 16.XX on the highway.

I had a 79 CJ5 with the 4.2L I6 and the wide ratio 4 speed manual truck trans.

That thing was a blast. I rebuild the top end shortly after i got it and fixed a few small things and never had an issue... but didnt drive it much.

I wish i didnt get rid of it... something about the rawness of it, no doors, no top, hose out the interior, simple mechanics and about the easiest manual transmission ever to learn on, cus you didnt need any gas in 2nd gear to get her rolling. That stated though i didnt drive her much (maybe only put 2k miles on it during the time i had it)... and the taco is SO much better off road.

I came from a Wrangler 2 door before the Tacoma. For me it was reliability, having a bed, and to a small degree comfort. I liked the Jeep, and they are undoubtedly the best in this price range for off roading and it is fun to take the top and doors off in summer, but they aren't the greatest daily drivers. Some day I will probably buy an old jeep for the fun parts of it, but I probably won't ever daily drive one again.

Disagree. Two major things, wheel base and departure angle.

I voted 2015 Tacoma and an older Jeep. I have a 2015 DCSB TRD OR and a 2005 Wrangler Unlimited. But, I ve had several jeeps in my time and and a Samurai and to date my 1995 4 cylinder wrangler was my favorite. I had a 3.5 BDS lift, 33x10.5 tires, 4:88's and a lock right. It was a fun little off roader and didn't break until I t-boned a Subaru Outback that made a left hand turn in front of me. I've actually considered selling the 2005 and putting money into some truck accessories and then using the majority to pick up another YJ, just seems like people want a lot of money for a YJ these days and in theory my 2005 is a better platform so it might get an OME kit and 33x10.5's this spring just in time to hit moab unless we take the Tacoma.
