I do not understand it either. I came from a 2009 Prerunner and just assumed when I bought the 2013 that I could use the locker in 2wd. When I found out it does not even work in 4hi I was like WTF. Once I got over it I realized that when I need extra traction it really does not matter whether I am switching on the locker or 4X4. Still it would be nice to use the locker any time.

I have heard with forced induction there are issues....I think on any forced induction engine, you're going to give of some longevity.

Rather give up on performance if it means it will go 200-300K miles.

Yeah, I can see that...think they could get better mpg if they offered some different gear ratios. Basically how the others are getting the numbers they are...their engines aren't that vastly different.

I can see it in a car, but in a truck...(my SUV, I keep really nice, I won''t even eat in it, nor is the dog allowed in it) I don't want to feel I have to be careful in it. Seems like I am always covered in dirt, sawdust, concrete, mud, etc...sometimes all of the above. Nice to jump in and not really care about screwing up leather and whatnot.

But I use and abuse my trucks...hauling dirt, gravel, running down dirt roads mile after mile, camping, hauling dirt bikes...ya know...truck stuff.

One of the things I love about the 2nd gen Tacoma is the seats. You can get just about anything on the TRD seats and get it out with a quick carpet shampooer. The new Tacoma has a different material though. Who knows if it will be as forgiving. I know my Ram seats retain stains no matter what I try :(.

That is good to know, I like vinyl for the abuse you can give them...but they get hot or cold. Answer might be Carhartt canvas covers.

I don't feel I am overly cautious with my truck. If I'm dirty, covered in snow, have blood on me (hunting/slaughter), have mud on my boots etc. I just slide in the truck. I just make sure to eventually clean it all up and I don't let it sit there and ruin my upholstery.
I'm careful, not obsessive and that seems to have done me just fine.

Although I will say that I like vinyl floors. Carpet does get messed up over time.

Absolutely. But what I was referring to is that the 5.7 was not advises to be super charged in cold conditions but the others were. With the same supercharger, one engine took more damage than the others.

I think it's safe to say engine life is reduced. However the SC also causes one to use it a lot more. If the same engine ran the same trials as a blown one it might go out sooner too.

If they offered a force induction engine I would buy it. If I knew for a fact it would reduce life to 100k I would not. However I would buy one meant to last 300k and charge it myself... because I'm making the choice to do so on my own. Also, I would be having compression tests along the way to gauge life and respond accordingly.

I am bad about cleaning it, I'll run down dusty roads with the windows down...basically when I can no longer see the speedo...ok, time to drag a rag across it. I do like my windshield spotless though...always rubbing on that thing.

    Fair enough lol.

I just see a lot of anti Ford hate on here based on friend of friend or other vague and nebulous experiences. In my area, with my background, I would of never bought a Toyota at all if I believed people like that (because they are little and ghey according to most here) so it goes both ways.

However, this is Tacomaworld, so what else should I expect. RAH RAH OUR TOYOTA OVERLORDS :D. QDR! QDR! QDR! TOYOTA!

Yes, and they are making no sense. Ford does not make anything that compares to the Taco (maybe if the ranger comes back we can talk)...that's the bottom line...to say an F150 with a crew cab and short box is not much bigger is just wrong...it's much bigger...about 6" wider (that's a lot when talking vehicles) wheelbase is longer...overall length is about another foot (and this is the small F150) and the height is bigger. Now compare that to the new Taco, that some of us feel is already too big.

I drove a GMC Canyon (crew cab short box) this morning...nice truck...but nothing great....and btw, it felt too big...the Taco, especially the 2nd was much more compact...the 3rd gen is bigger, but still feels more managable than the Canyon.

Why sit around a Tacoma forum and talk about F150s (they are the best selling vehicle in the USA...there is no shortage of other sites about them)....leave Tacoma people to the cool niche Toyota has carved out for us over the decades and go talk about the mass produced, overly advertised, every-other-car-on-the-road F150 some where else! LOL

You are showing your TW age. If everyone on here just talked about Tacoma's all day, well, Tacomaworld would be a much smaller place.

The entire discussion is focused around price really, which makes total sense. If you can fit the larger truck in your garage and lifestyle it's a better buy at the price, mileage, and on road capability. That makes sense to a lot of people.

My age, I'm 44, for what it's worth... Maybe my point wasn't clear enough, It's expected to talk about other small/mid size trucks, other off-roaders, etc.... and yes, some full size comparisons once in a while. but this dwelling on the F150 lately is just silly. Why aren't we talking about Silverado pricing too? In other words, why stop at the F150? There are a ton of "better buys" out there. Everyone's lifestyle can accommodate more or less than Tacoma offers.... Should I make a thread about why a used Suburban might me your best bet, lol....you get it. ;)

I think the bolded part is the only thing in question. What makes it a better buy? If truck A lasts 7 years before it starts breaking down routinely, and truck B lasts 15 years before it reaches that point, how much cheaper does A have to be to be "a better buy for the price"? If A is worth 60% of the original price after 5 years and B is worth 75%, how much cheaper does A have to be to make it a better buy for the price? Those things really depend on how long the OP plans to keep his vehicle and how much the difference in long term reliability means to him.

I said TW age as in TacomaWorld age. This site has way more chit chat on it than Tacoma talk at the end of the day.

The OP asked about the F150. I wonder why we are talking about the F150. TBH you've answered your own question too. The F150 sells more than any other pickup on the road. When you are considering other pickups, the F150 is the most likely truck to enter the conversation whether you are talking midsized or fullsized.

Are you suggesting that a 3rd gen Tacoma is a 15 year truck and the newest F150 is a 7 year truck.

I see a lot of 10 year old F150's out on the roads here. 1st gens have disappeared from this area due to frame rust. The reliability is a crap shoot that far out. If are talking about major mechanical issues in the first year of ownership, which is often the biggest thing people care about when they talk QDR because if things are going to go horribly wrong it's usually in the first few years, both the F150 and the Tacoma have been historically good choices. Then again, the 2015 model F150 has only been on the road one year and the 2016 Tacoma hasn't even really been on the road in full numbers yet. So again, reliability is a crap shoot between the two.

You better not, you'll cause @MikeD72 to blow out his anus if you write about it somewhere on here.
