    Hello guys,

Went with the Tacoma. I could have bought F150 but the dealerships i contacted ignored my emails regarding ordering 2016 F150. 1 dealership finally contacted me and got me the quotes after waiting about 10 days.. I later asked them to send me the XPlan pricing but just never gt any reponse. Finally I was just too tired of chasing and then just contacted my Toyo salesman from whom we also got a 4Runner. Saw him the following weekend, went for a test drive and that was it. I sat in the back seat of a DC, found it to be workable.
If were to decide now, i still couldnt. I really like both. I did my math and everytime i build an XLT it woukd come up to around $46k... With the 16 Taco TRDDCLBOR Prem/Tech/JBL pkg, it was about $7k less.

Funny, how that morning I saw a ruby red XLT SCREW! Wow it was beautiful.
In the end i feel like both would have been a good choice and i may miss XLT Spacious SCREW but i feel content.

Thank you all for your comments. Negative/Positive/Useless/Funny
    :) :) :)

Congrats....7k is really nothing to scoff at..it's a full price range up. A lot of the "you can get a full size for the same price" comments are overly generalizing. Same thing with GMC, the Canyon's get expensive, but even with the discounts the Sierras are significantly more.

I think the Ford salesman gave the $46,500 quote and mentioned whatever rebates upon delivery. So that could be good or bad. I also prepared a $1k ford certificate. So i was ready to pull the trigger. I'm thinkjng the diff may have end up being $3k-&4k idk but still...Who knows with future rebates.

2015 Trail Edition with KDSS suspension.
2016 Taco sport felt very smooth and solid, boh very simiar IMO. But i had to have the OR so i ordered that. Otherwise Sport is my 2nd choice.

Thanks, maybe you can help me a little bit more....

I need to pull the trigger on sometihng pretty soon....I have it narrowed down to a 4R, GMC Canyon Crew Cab Shortbox or a '16 DCSB OR. So far I am kinda leaning toward the Canyon over the Taco for the bigger engine and overall look of it....but I have the 4R in the lead. Our other car is a Sienna AWD. I don't absolutely need the bed, but kinda think it would nice to have.

Anyway, since you own a Runner and have some experience with pickups...what would you think?

@MikeD72 why wouldn't you want to test drive each vehicle to get an idea how each one will suit your needs? I think only you would know what your needs are.

For me, I drove both the T4R and Taco back to back. Liked the T4R more off the bat, but bought the Taco cause I've been drooling over it for the longest time.

We have both a Pickup and a SUV, they compliment each other nicely. But if you don't need a bed, I would go for the 4Runner, 'cause it is better built than the Tacoma.

Don't buy for looks or bigger engine. That's what I did :D. Check out the video below. I'd equate the T4R to the Wife Zone and Taco to the Date Zone :).

Oh, sorry I should have been clearer, I have been test driving like crazy. Problem is I can't find a '16 Taco to drive..I was able to drive a '16 MT Sport around the parking lot...dealer gave me some crap about it being the branch office's truck, so it wasn't for testing driving. I sat in a few others.....really not blow away with it....Drove the Colorado and Canyon... and a bunch of 4Rs, the 4Rs seem great, but kinda of like you, I had my heart set on a pickup, so well, here I am...haha....

Also, it's kinda driving my nuts that the 4R engine and design will likely change next year, and the GM twins are getting a few miles better mpg with more HP currnetly And honestly, any of these trucks will suit my needs for the most part, so it comes down to which I like better... i will say though, the 4R definitely seems like a quality SUV...no doubt about that....it's solid.

Current 4R is only 2nd yr of this design, was redesigned in 2014 so i think 2017/18 may be the year for next re-design.

    Here we go!
Well, Honda's do seem to have a reputation for longevity, and please do take note of my post earlier, where I said that 3 Fords and 1 Dodge thing was just an example. It could have been any company.

That aside, yes I agree with you. Honestly, I say buy the vehicle that makes you the happiest and care for it as best you can. You should have minimal problems that way and you'll be happy. I feel like I know this for fact because if I had my dream 2nd gen Tacoma and an engine or tranny went out, I wouldn't buy a new truck, I would fix that one. Find what you love and drive it. (With enough in savings to cover any misfortunes!)

Yeah I can see that I just don't really enjoy being lumped with that group. Like I said, I can see how you got that which is why I explained.
I don't even look at Consumer Reports lol. In fact in my example, when talking about how each company has built a reputation, I actually wanted to say "consumer reports" but knew it would be read as "ConsumerReports" so I didn't. You should be worried, yes, and you should protect it. But to me it is very different than a transmission. Frame rust for one, is being taken care of. Secondly, it's something you can catch very early on - You don't find out driving 80MPH down the highway that your frame just failed with no warning. The drivetrain is a vital part of QDR because that is the engineered moving parts that sell the car. That's the power, the efficiency, and the reliability of the vehicle. If a transmission failure was as simple as spending a lot of time in the driveway it wouldn't be so bad, but when a drivetrain component fails, you're in a lot of trouble. I just don't feel the frame is as dangerous/unpredictable if you're inspecting it regularly and is an easy fix. Engines and transmission are much more complex than frames.

As far as something wrong with the Tacoma... Well honestly, midsize truck sounds like an oxymoron. They can't tow the most, they aren't the most efficient, they're not the fastest, they're not the best offroad, and they aren't the cheapest. They're the best at nothing other than style. They really are "lifestyle" vehicles in which you can do a little of everything in. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but they cost just as much to make as a full-size (to an extent?) but can't sell for as much or else they're counterproductive. Therefore, they don't get the latest tech to make them more efficient. Why make them? For example, GM. When you offer so many different variants of trucks, the lines are blurred. You have the midsize that can tow almost as much as the smallest full size. Why?? I don't quite understand it. But for some reason I do love them. I guess the answer is no one needs just one thing, but a do it all. Maybe my whole argument is backwards and a midsize truck is for doing everything you need. I don't know. That's how I use mine and maybe it's why I love it. I can offroad, I can tow, and with enough money I can go really fast.

Honestly, Ford doing so well with the power and efficiency of the F150 is what's throwing a stick in the tire of the midsize segment. It's bridging the gap.
I suppose I don't blame the contractor company because for one, they are invisible to the consumer, practically. Secondly, it goes back to how I feel about a drivetrain problem vs. a frame problem. Apples to oranges IMO. Also, I don't think the average consumer realizes not all engines are in house design. I thought they were. When a company produces a vehicle that craps out it looks like they cheaped out the manufacturing process. Maybe that is the reason some engines from contractors had failed? Maybe the companies chose the cheapest production method.

Honestly I feel like there is so much that goes into the design and selection of those outsourced parts that we have no way of knowing - why they chose who they chose and what product they told them to make - that we can't really make an informed decision on it. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah I was about to say, I immediately noticed when Toyota said their new trucks would be built in (north) America... Sneaky!

Refer to previous response. In summary, I would rather buy a truck I feel may have a frame rust problem than I feel will have an engine or transmission failure.
