I like the Tacoma, it is a great not so little truck [anymore]. Most of us are working class stiffs, so it basically comes down to what can I get for my money...Toyotas used to be a cheap little truck that got decent fuel economy years ago. Now is not the case...price has gone up, fuel economy is basically the same it was back in the 80's. The fullsizes now get roughly the same mpg with more power and capacity, and you can price them out for about the same as the Tacoma.

So midsizes kinda make less sense for what you get...only thing they have going for them is that they are slightly smaller and one of the rare trucks you can still get a manual trans...which Toyota all but killed, believe there are only 3 packages you can get it in, which is kinda lame. Gone is the base SR V6 4WD with the manny...I have to buy a Sport ACLB or an OR DCSB. DCSB's are all about useless...Sports are kinda ghey...gawd damn you Toyota, I want a SR V6 4WD manny, so I can build it how I want it....fuckers! :D

The only thing I will disagree with is that I they are more than "slightly" smaller, because full-sizes have gotten huge. 6+ inches smaller in width, 1-3 feet smaller in length, and a couple inches shorter in height....when talking vehicles that's quite a big difference. So basically what I am saying is that small trucks have kept their size relation to big trucks, because everything has gotten bigger. It's the "super size me" world. hahaha

I had an '83 Bronco when I was a kid....my friends and I thought it was the biggest car in the world. When I see pics of it it looks smaller than the new 4Rs lol

A DCLB Tacoma and a Supercrew with the short bed are within inches of each other front to back. The Ford also only weighs in about 300 lbs more in those configurations. The only thing that makes the Ford much bigger at all is the width, which is true for all full sized trucks. It's not more than 6" though. Enough to be a PITA on the trail but, in town, if you can't park a F150 you aren't going to have fun trying to park a Tacoma either.

It is only 3" per side...not much...unless you fellas are lying to yer girlfriends and wives! Ha ha! Indeed things have gotten bigger. Believe the midsizes are closer in size to what the full sizes were in the 70-80-90's.

I dunno...think I should say Fuck the World and just buy a Tundra, you can pick up a used RCLB for cheap. Like under 20K...save the $15K I didn't spend on a brandy new one for fuel...because she is gonna need it...that gal is thirsty!

Just look how much gear I can haul in that bed! Yeah baby! It is a good truck, but not a great truck...it will however do everything I'll ask it to do. It shouldn't break much, as it is a Toyota.

Width is what hinders driving in most tight spots.... I forgot about the long bed, I guess because I am so set on a short bed. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike F150s. I just think they are still a different animal.

Seriously, 6 inches is a huge difference in a car/truck. Ask an engineer....the race car guys get down to centimeters.

I gotta buddy that swears by his 2008 Tundra. Says he doesn't care how thirsty she is....best truck he's ever had.

Good thing I don't race! ;) I'll be in the back country...on some trail thinking to myself, hey this is pretty tight...glad I am in my modded Tacoma, then I'll see some retired retired dude in a stock 2WD fullsize... ha ha...or worse a Subaru!

I have buddy who loves his, 165K miles no problems whatsoevar. Likes it so much his wife bought one too, he was looking at the Taco, but being 6'4" it is too small. He says he averages a solid 18 mpg. My Taco gets that.

I guess the the flex fuel versions get worse mpg from what I am hearing, something about the computer sensor not sensing normal gas.

Yup. Six inches is a huge difference for those that live in heavily populated areas. The Tacoma is around 74 inches wide, add another six inches, then full sized trucks are almost 10% wider, makes a difference come parking time no, two ways about it.

I really think that if Toyota offered the DCLB with a manual, many people from other brands would jump ship and get into a Tacoma.

Two inches more width on each side and a wider turning radius can be a problem. Two GenI Tacomas meet on a narrow trail and they move past each other fine. That can't be said for many other trucks.

Width (excluding mirrors) of a DCLB is 75.2", while a F150 Super Crew (full four doors) is 79.9". A difference of 4.7"

DCLB length is 225.5", while the Super Crew with the 5.5' bed is 231.9", a difference of 6.4"

Not a ton of difference. Looking at @Sterdog's pictures of the two trucks side by side in parking lot stalls, you can see that pretty well, at least in terms of width.

Where the F150 clearly has the upper hand is in in bed volume. 9.1" wider between the wheel wells is a huge difference in carrying capacity, especially when you factor in the bed is also 2.3" deeper.

As SwollenGoat said, I think both trucks are solid, and am still looking forward to driving the 2016 Tacoma DCLB TRDOR. But wanting to carry a FWC pop up camper, and later possibly tow a trailer, has me thinking the Taco is out of the running.

Ask a girl. It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it :p.
