Well this thread isn't about you or me...the OP is looking for other options. The F150 or any half ton for that matter isn't a bad choice.

As I stated earlier, I would compare the extra cabs 6.5' bed 1/2 tons to the Tacoma DCLB...since wheelbase (Taco 140", F150 143") and rear seat legroom very similar (Taco 32", F150 33") (give or take) ....and not the 1/2 ton crew cab 6.5' bed.

Track, the F150 is only 4 inches or so wider IIRC. It isn't massively huge like some of you guys are leading on.

    Taco DCLB length is 140".
F-150 access cab 6.5' bed length is 143".

Any idea what the length is for F-150 DC with 5.5' bed?

If I could get away with having a full-size truck I'd take a F150, hands down. I like my Tacoma a lot though.

Honestly if you're in the market to spend $35-40k and you aren't trying to build an off-road machine, buying a Tacoma makes little sense (outside of retained value and perceived Toyota dependability).

It is not enough truck to justify that price point IMO.

The room in an F150 is highly over exaggerated.

Not really. The Tacoma is an off-road capable truck. For those who don't offroad, it's also a bit of a bridge between a sedan and a real truck.

$40k buys a nice sedan, or a real truck.

The only difference is Tacoma is a good buy. The others are more risky, and don't retain as much value.

My bad, the Super Crew is 145", which is the same as the CC 5.5'. Still not that much longer than the Taco DCLB.

I think the Chevys are 143"...

With a little lift 2.5-3"...will darn near be as capable as a Taco on all but the tightest of trails.

I was in the same shoes this winter. Was set on buying an F150 when they first came out with the 2015 because of MPG and new technology, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the price and slightly smaller size of the Tacoma better. Toyota's reliability and resale value are what ultimately sold me on the Tacoma, as I figure if I can sell it for a good price in the next five years or so when I need a full size to haul my future kids and pull my future boat.

Yeah, the Tacoma is in a weird zone (size and price)...me personally I am out growing it, love the little thing, but its' small size is both its' strength and weakness. While great on the trail...it kinda sucks for hauling gear. (its small size and the payload isn't the greatest)..think I decided to go old school, 3/4 Ton RCLB fullsize.
